Car Accident and the Airbags Didn't Deploy

My husband was in an accident in our car. He lost control of the car and hit a culvert on the driver's side. After he hit the culvert the car was then airborn and as the vehicle was spinning around in the air it came down and hit the front of the car completely demolishing the front and then the car came down on the rear and demolished it. During all of this time the airbags never deployed in the steering wheel or the dash. My husband was ejected from the vehicle at some point of the accident and hit the pavement. He suffered severe head trauma and by the time he was taken to the hospital he had passed away. I believe that if the airbags would have deployed he would still be here today because they would have helped in keeping him inside the car. Please explain to me why the airbags did not deploy. Thanks.

how can i bypass airbags to get car started

  • Anonymous Mar 29, 2014

I had an accident 2 months ago I had extensive front end damage and the drivers airbag deployed. This is the first accident with this car. Its a subaru outback 2011. The repair shop has had the car for two months and they cannot align the rear end. They say the car was hit from the rear before and I know it wasnt since i am the sole owner. They have made up lots of storys but are paying to fix the issue which seems unfixable at first they refused now they are paying for it and acting like they are doing me a favor. I dont have a car they wont pay for a rental they said I used the month up which should be enough time to fix the car. But its normal to have a car for a few months. I have been paying on the vehicle it will be 3 payments of $500.00 with this next month coming up. I dont want the car back if it is unsafe I am not sure what to do I think the frame is bent the were supposed to total it and then at the last minute desided to fix it and now it cannot be aligned. I dont know what to do? Can you help.

It is always unfortunate that people face accidents because of the security system failure. In those cases car accident lawyers are highly needed.

First you need to know if the air bag light was coming on before the accident, if the light was coming on then the car should be fixed before in order to get the air bags to work propelly, also were did you buy the car from? was this a new car purchased? or did you buy it used at small dealer ? because if it was new or bought used from a dealer, they are supposed to do an inspection safety check on every car before they can sell it to the public, also for what i understand the air bag module stores a lot of information after an accident, like what speed was the car going, if he did stop or acerelate the car at time of accident, it stores lost of information. and to be honest with you i don't know if the car can save this information with the air bag previously on, but ask the police department or the investigators to pull the information from the air bag module wich is like a black box installed on air planes, something similar, i hope and you stiil have the car or acces to it, but you right if he got out the caR at moment of firts impact, he would be here now, but that's just my way to think or imajine, since i was not there, i hope and this information help, and if you trying to sue somebody, make sure to try to sue the bigest company involve in this deal because i belive there will be only 1 sue case by case, you better get some legal help since i'm not an attorney, and i will aprecciate you ranking to my answer since that will really help my score
and reputacion here on fixya

We had two separate accidents involving a deer the airbags never deploy in neither collision. How do i disconnect them?

They didn't deploy cause you hit a deer, the airbags sensors need to get a gforce reading to deploy, hitting a deer ksnt enough to do it

2013 Volkswagen Beetle airbags did not deploy in my accident

The airbag technology uses many factors when deploying. If it doesn't see the need, they won't pop out at you possibly injuring you more than the small accident. When I was clipped on my rear corner and spun me around in the intersection, they didn't pop. But a head first hit popped them. The primary sensor is behind the front bumper

Do the airbags and seatbealt deploy in a accident if you dont apply brakes?

Yes, absolutely if the ignition key is turned in "ON" position!
No matter if you apply or not the car brakes, the airbags and seatbelts deploy in a accident if the ignition key is turned in "ON" position. The Airbag system is completely independent from the brake system.

1997 honda civic lx involved in a minor accident, airbags did deploy, now cranks but, won't start....replaced the mains relay but still won't start. Need idea of what may be the problem

If the airbags deployed, I suspect the car took a good
hit. If the car is worth keeping, considering the air bag
situation alone, I would take it to the dealer.

My air bag didnt deploy in an high speed accident

FRONT airbags only work(deploy)when hit from a direct front ender, not offset,if they went off on an offset front end it would rip your head off as it twisted your neck.

Car accident - airbags did not deploy

Definately not infinity, since they do not have any way of knowing car history, unless they do repairs. Likely not the dealer, unless they withheld info, ie:had prior knowledge and did not disclose. But quite possibly the previous owner, since on transfer, they have a responsibility to acknowledge previous car damage if it amounts to more than 25% of the vehicles value at the time of the repair. Good Luck! I hope you find this to be very helpful!

Airbags did not deploy when we rearended the car in front at 30mp

First, I hope you and any occupants are OK.

Could be a faulty sensor (unlikely), Did you have any error codes before the accident? If so they could have been for the airbags for whatever reason. The impact might not have been hard enough (Yeah I know 30mph).

Airbags are deployed based on measurements from accelerometers in the car. If some predetermined G-force is not met, the bags won't deploy. You could have the dealer verify a properly functioning system when the car is repaired but given you were hit from behind (negative G's) and then hit the car in front of you (positive G's), you may not have hit hard enough (for the car, not you) to have the bags deploy.

This might be handy for future reference:

Car turns over( 2001 ford focus zx3)but will not start hit a pole going slow ,air bags opened,is there somekind of resetting to do after air bags open do they make the car not start, all fuses are good ...

check your owners manual,I think your car has a fuel shut off switch.they are usually located in the trunk on the drivers side.they need to be reset if you are in an accident or when the airbags deploy.

Disabling Airbags on Mazda 323f 1995

Well, for one you not suppose to put a baby seat in the front of the car. But anyways with an older airbag control system like that you cannot just disable one airbag, if you unplug the passenger side airbag then in an accident neither airbags will deploy.
