Why is clutch pedal making a single clicking noise everytime it is released ?


The click you are hearing is most likely coming from the clutch safety switch, which prevents the car from starting unless the clutch is fully depressed. Some vehicles use a relay to activate/deactivate the safety feature when the clutch pedal is cycled.

Is there more than one cluth fluild i should check on mazda miata mx 5 if i dont have cruise on car is clicking clutch when depressed a problem?


you don`t say what the problem is that your having. there is only one master cylinder for the clutch system to check. a clicking noise when depressing the clutch pedal could indicate a worn clutch pressure plate or worn clutch fork or clutch slave cylinder. have the system checked as you could end up with a complete fail with the system.

Clutch noise


This noise may come from the clutch diaphragm which stops working when the pedal is depressed. The clutch disk might be slipping.

Possibly your clutch pressure plate,nothing serious,if the noise annoys you get your clutch plate checked by a prof..

Clutch problems


Hi bosslady15,

First of all I think I should say that clutches do not make grinding noises - but transmission gears do.
However, a clutch that is not disengaging properly can make the gears grind when trying to shift from one gear to the next. Also a common source of noise is the clutch throwout bearing. This will make a "grinding" or "growling" noise any time the clutch pedal is depressed. In either of these cases, the only solution is to replace the clutch, throwout bearing, pressure plate and pilot bushing. These all usually come in a clutch kit. If you have an hydraulic clutch with an internal slave cylinder it is recommended to replace the slave cylinder as well and also the flywheel on on vehicles. I'm sorry I cannot be more specific because you did not mention what type of vehicle we are talking about here.

replace the starter. Being a manual transmission you should be able to pop the clutch to get it going till you replace the starter. If you don't know how to pop the clutch follow these steps. That way you can still drive the car. When need to.
  1. Get inside the vehicle and depress the clutch to shift the car into "Neutral." Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the "On" position. This is the place the key would be after a normal turn of the ignition switch for starting. Instead, with a clutch pop, the ignition will already need to be on so that when the engine is turned over, the key is in the On position.

  2. Move the car in position to be pushed from behind or sent down a slope for the starting procedure. Check to see that the brakes will work when pressed and how hard the steering wheel will need to be turned before the vehicle is started. Power steering and brakes will make both systems work poorly until the vehicle is started.
  3. 3 Sitting inside the driver's seat with the clutch depressed, put the shifter into first gear. Keep your foot depressed onto the clutch and the brake pedal without depressing the brake pedal. Roll down the window and signal to your helper to push. As the car rolls, you will steer toward any slope that will assist the helper in getting the car down the street. Allow the momentum of the vehicle to increase to constant motion.
  4. 4 Release the clutch quickly and be prepared to throttle the gas pedal as the engine is turned over by the motion of the vehicle. When in gear, the engine will be forced to crank and the ignition will send a spark for a start. The quicker the vehicle is going before the clutch is released will determine how many times the engine will turn over. More cranks equal more opportunities to ignite the gas and air for combustion and the engine to start without a battery or starter

Gear shifting


Adust clutch cable.Test...start the car in first gear with clutch fully depressed, parking break off. Slowly release the clutch. determine when the vehicle starts to move. If clutch is fully depressed call that 100%, fully released is 0%. The vehicle should be moving at around the 55-45% range.

All vehicles: squeak noise at center under car: likely a binding universal joint on either front or rear driveshaft. Also may give some body vibration at speed, often mistaken for out of balance tire. Stickshift cars: additionally noise can be from a bad clutch throwout bearing... generally also accompanied by vibration in clutch pedal when lightly depressed.

Clutch/transmission problem


When the car is sitting idling,and the clutch is not depressed,it makes a grinding noise because the input shaft of the transmission is being forced to turn by the clutch,which is engaged,and even though the trans is in neutral,the input shaft is still turning,and this is called "neutral roll over" noise,and some of the assemblies inside the trans are freewheeling around.The noise goes away when the clutch pedal is being depressed down,because the input shaft of the transmission is no longer turning.So it does sound like an internal transmission problem.It is still possible for the throwout bearing to be bad,and it can be checked when the trans is removed from the vehicle,Remove the throwout bearing from the trans input sleeve,and press down on the bearing flange and turn it at the same time.It should feel smooth and free.If it catches or feels gravelly,then the bearing is bad and that could be your noise.Also,turn the input shaft of the trans and same thing,if it's smooth and free or if gravelly feeling......Good luck.
