Engine dies My 1996 olds 88 with the 3.8 V-6 dies when the window switches are used, I believe by pure luck one time i was able to move the switch rapidly back and forth and the car ran again, another time i loaded it on the car hauler trailer got to the house decided to try it and it drove off the trailer and had no problems for a few weeks. However my ******* hit the window switch again and the car died and I can't get it to start again I have been looking at the harnesses in the door and leading to the back of the car towards the fuel pump. but decided to see if someone else has a clue or has a quick fix other than tearing out my interior if anyone can help it would be appreciated

Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls and low idle, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve, they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

I have 1999 Toyota corolla and the front window some times goes up, sometimes not!

I'm assuming it is a power window. It may be a loose connector in the power bezel, or over time the switch contacts have go comtaminated (moisture-rust-dirt). Remove the power bezel and inspect the connector and switch. does this impact the other windows as well? Good Luck

Does this engine have a timeing belt or chain?

If the car is a 1996 Olds 88 with the 3.8L engine, then it has a timing chain. If you visit the website and register the vehicle information, you will have access to an online repair manual for the car, and info is available on the timing chain. The manual is a very handy resource and it is free. I think that you will find it useful. Hope this helped and best wishes.

'96 Delta 88, died when lowering window, one restart, dead now.

All I can suggest is to carefully check out the condition of all +12V power supply leads and ground connections, from the battery to the general power distribution bus at the fusebox.
Pay particular attention to battery terminal posts and any in line maxi power fuses/fusible links and associated connectors, terminals and connections.
Check you havent lost a ground connection between the battery, engine/transmission assy and the general body.
Also worth checking the alternator is working correctly, able to carry the normal running loads reliably. Battery terminal voltage should be approx 14 to 14.5V with engine running when headlights on, A/C blower motor running.
I assume the battery charge condition is ok when these problems occur.
Check electrical and physical condition of the actual Ignition/Accessory switch and associated steering column loom connectors.
Good Luck!

I have a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee 6 cylinder. You might want to check the Ignition Off Draw (IOD) fuse in the Electrical Power Distribution center located in the black box located just in front of the coolant fill container on the left side under the hood. This is a 40 amp fuse, orange in color and is the orange fuse closest to the firewall. This fuse is used to put the jeep in storage if you don't plan to drive it for a while. Which would stop the current flow and not allow your battery to die. GOOD LUCK!
