Not sure why the other guy said what he said but, the filter comes off with a special tool you can pack up at any auto parts store. The tool slids over the fuel line and into the gap between the fuel line and the adapter, This pushes the "keepers" inside the adapter and allows you to pull the filter away from the adapter. You will need to do that on both ends of the filter.

1993 century custom 3.3 v6. Do I need a specialty tool to remove fuel filter? Looks like snap connects on both sides, I thought one side would be a threaded hard line. It won't even downshift to pass

Yes you need a special tool. Any auto parts store will have the internal fuel line retainer clip release tool. If you look at the photo of the filter below the off white plastic clips are the retainers I refer to.

How to repalce a fuel filter on a 1997 buick lesabre

The fuel filter should be in the fuel line between the gas tank and the engine. The line runs under the floor of the car.
You'll need a pair of pliers and a couple of wrenches.
One end of the filter uses a crimp clip to hold it in the line, the other end is a threaded pipe fitting.
Be sure to release the fuel pressure in the line before you take the filter loose.

Where the fuel filter located on a 2002 Ford explorer

your fuel filter is well hid !! the fuel tank is on the passengers side of your explorer on the fuel filer is located on the front top of your fuel tank ! access to the filter is obtained by removing the heat shield at the front of the fuel tank, there are two bolts retaining the shield to the right frame rail and two bolts retaining the shield to the cross member. once the shield is removed you will see the filter,Be careful removing the fuel lines, the lines have locking clips that DO NOT remove from the lines !! and can be damage if you are not careful (which will result in complete line replacement if the ends are broken. the line clips are released by disengaging the top of the clip then folding the the edge over towards the side its attached to next push both side's in (towards center on top edge) then push clip down part way while pulling line loose .Good luck Thanks for using fix ya

I have a 1995 Ford E-350 with a 5.8L engine.i am trying to replace the inline fuel filter. Your answer earlier about "plastic clips" is incorrect. Mine has steel spring clips that snap over the crimped on...

You will need a fuel line quick connect removal tool to release the inner clips holding the line in the filter.when you purchase the tool make sure you get the correct size for the line.

How do I change the fuel filter on my 2000 Excursion? New filter has plastic clips

You need a small pocket screw driver and pinch the opposite end of the clamp to remove. Normally they come with new clips as the old ones break off. And if the filter has been on a long time the clips can actually wear out and can leak fuel if you don't replace them.you also have to remove the one or two mounting bolts holding it on.

I have a 2002 3.8 mustang.that misses after gettin speed up and backin off the gas to maintainspeed. replaced plugs and wires .and egr valve......still misses???

Hello;
Check your fuel pressure and filter. Also check to make sure your fuel pressure regulator is not blown out. Simple check is to pull vacuum line off at regulator and see if there is fuel present in that line. If there is then the regulator is bad .
Hope this helps;
Thanks;

Changing fuel filter on 2002 Mazda pickup

Clean all dirt and/or grease from the fuel filter fittings. "Quick Connect" fittings are used on models equipped with a pressurized fuel system. These fittings must be disconnected using the proper procedure or the fittings may be damaged. The fuel filter uses a "hairpin" clip retainer. Spread the two hairpin clip legs about 1/8 in. (3mm) each to disengage it from the fitting, then pull the clip outward. Use finger pressure only; do not use any tools. Push the quick connect fittings onto the filter ends. Mazda recommends that the retaining clips be replaced whenever removed. The fuel tubes used on these fuel systems are manufactured in 5/16 in. and 3/8 in. diameters. Each fuel tube takes a different size hairpin clip, so keep this in mind when purchasing new clips. A click will be heard when the hairpin clip snaps into its proper position. Pull on the lines with moderate pressure to ensure proper connection. Start the engine and check for fuel leaks. If the inertia switch (reset switch) was disconnected to relieve the fuel system pressure, cycle the ignition switch from the OFF to ON position several times to re-charge the fuel system before attempting to start the engine.
0900c15280192eed.jpgRemove the "hairpin" clip retainers to access the fuel line fittingsThe inline reservoir type fuel filter should last the life of the vehicle under normal driving conditions. If the filter does need to be replaced, proceed as follows:
CAUTIONIf the fuel filter is being serviced with the rear of the vehicle higher than the front, or if the tank is pressurized, fuel leakage or siphoning from the tank fuel lines could occur. to prevent this condition, maintain the vehicle front end at or above the level of the rear of vehicle. also, relieve tank pressure by loosening the fuel fill cap. cap should be tightened after pressure is relieved.
  1. Shut the engine off. Depressurize the fuel system.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  3. Detach the fuel lines from both ends of the fuel filter by disengaging both push connect fittings. Install new retainer clips in each push connect fitting.
  4. Note which way the flow direction arrow points on the old filter.
  5. Remove the filter from the bracket by loosening the filter retaining clamp enough to allow the filter to pass through.
The flow direction arrow should be positioned as installed in the bracket to ensure proper flow of fuel through the replacement filter.
  1. Install the filter in the bracket, ensuring proper direction of flow as noted by arrow. Tighten clamp to 15-25 inch lbs.
  2. Install the push connect fittings at both ends of the filter.
  3. Lower the vehicle.
  4. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure.
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Negative battery cable
    • Push connect and R-clip fittings from the fuel filter

To install:
  1. Install or connect the following:
    • Fuel filter. Torque the nut to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).
    • R-clip and push connect fittings
    • Negative battery cable
  2. Start the vehicle, check for leaks and repair if necessary.
