Question about 1997 Ford F150 Regular Cab

1 Answer

Trailer Connections I have to mount a European Trailer Receptacle to my existing American Trailer Recptacle on. The turn signal/blinker and brake lights are 3 seperate wire circuits for all european trailers. How do I seperate the circuits so the brake lights and turn signals don't come on at the same time? Here is how the 7 Pin European receptacle needs to be wired. 1. L/H Turn 2. Fog 3. Ground 4. R/H Turn 5. R/H Tail 6. Brake (L/H & R/H Sides) 7. L/H Tail Use this diagram for wiring camping trailers, boat trailers, van trailers, car transporters and UK caravans.

Occasionally the indicators (Turn signals) will flash 4 ways when indicating for a turn

I disconnected the trailer wiring for the RH side and think it may be an internal alarm fault allowing 4 way because of a bad diode?

My brake lights and turn signals do not light up

If an American car- Ford, GM or Chrysler-they all have one thing in common: the brake lights and the rear turn signals share the same circuit. The brake light wire is routed through the turn signal switch. If neither work, it's likely you have a bad turn signal switch.
Japanese and European cars keep the brake light circuit separate.

I have a 1990 Chevy Suburban v1500. All lights work except for the Brake Lights and Turn Signals. The Blinker switch on steering column is broken, other than that everything is fine.

Yes, the brake light signal on American cars is routed through the turn signal switch. A new switch should restore both your turns and your brake lights.
American cars use the same bulb filament and same wire to the rears for both brakes and turns. Press the brakes when turning and both rear brakes will light, but since one side travels through the flasher relay, that side will blink, while the other side has a steady light.

I tow my 2005 Jeep Wrangler behind my motor home. I installed a Jeep trailer towing wiring kit to the rear lights. the bought a long trailer wiring kit and ran it from the front of the Jeep to the Jeep tralier wire plug. Pluged it in and pluged the other end into the motor home trailer light recptacle. I used only four wires plus ground. There is probably a way you could tap into the wiring harnes under the hood but not having a wiring diagram this is the best I could come up with and all lights do work. You can buy a test plug with led lights that plugs in both male and female, real handy for checking connections.

You likely need diode isolators on the turn signal wiring on the trailer, or on vehicle side connector. Your local auto parts store should have what you need, and show you how to install them.

Pressing brake causing blinker issue

The trailer harness that was installed probably has a short inside the box that distributes power to the trailer pig-tail. Remove the trailer harness. You problem will be cured.

Tow plug

I take it the blinkers and brake lights work ok when not hooked up to the trailer? If yes, then the wiring to the tow hitch is not hooked up correctly. How many wires to trailer pig tail connection? U can have up to 7 depending on what you tow. Check to make sure these wires are hooked up from the truck to tow plug correctly: 7 wired---
brown-Rt turn and brake light, yellow-backup, white-ground, blue-electric brake, green-tail running lights, black-battery charger, red-left turn signal and brake light. Let me know if u have something other than 7 wire, I'll get the wiring color and source info for u.

2001 Sportage Trailer wire connections

brown to the tail lights. yellow to left turn signal. green to right turn signal. this is a basic 3 wire hook-up i use all the time w/4wire connectors for all trailers. white wire is not used. ground is established when you hook to the ball.
to find the correct wire to splice to, use a testor (has a clip to the bare wire, and a sharp point to the truck frame). using a needle, push it through a wire to rear light harness. turn on the turn signal. check if the connection is the blinker, testing until you have the blinker wire. the tail lights can be attached to the license plate wire. brakes and blinkers use same wire, so brake lights will work whenever the turn signal is attached.
to be sure everything is working right, have a second person go inside the truck and work the signals, brakes and lights one at a time while you are at the back of the trailer telling what to do.
