Question about 1988 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24
Clutch was replace. I had no other problems. Now car will not stay running keeps stalling and knocking. mechanic said it was fuel related and that he did not do anything but replace the clutch. Also said that my battery was dead and I needed a new one, in the same sentence said he did not even start the car before or after the clutch was replaced. wouldn't you was to drive the car after replacing clutch to see if the job was done right?
Replacing a clutch is a major provedure, often involving moving the engine off it's mounts, or removing the subframe and steering assembly to remove the gearbox.
Sometimes after a clutch refit, there are related problems with hoses or as in your case electrical faults.
It is probably a sensor cable that has been damaged - and that information is not available to the ECU or control gear. Other times it is the vacuum hoses which allow air in when damaged.
I would take the car back to have a diagnostic check. If it is found to be a sensor not reading or damaged pipe - offer to go halves on the replacement costs - as they are more likely to do this than pay outright. If it is quick for them, they may not charge anything because you were reasonable in the first place.
Sometimes if a connection was weak anyway - it's not entirely their fault.
