Service Engine Soon came back on and the car is again stalling ????? Did you have it checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble code's ? Service engine soon light on , codes will be present !
It may be possible the starter was replaced at some point and someone forgot to install the start shim or shims. Also, check the charging system because you may have a bad alternator.
Well, if it is doing all of that, the Check Engine light has GOT to be SCREAMING at you! Continuing to try to force the vehicle to operate under such conditions will only cause further damage to the vehicle. I would recommend getting the thing to where you can scan your onboard computer and find out what is going on.
Go to AutoBeef.com and you will see there is a problem with th 98 & 99 Durangos. I took the advice to buy a refurbished PCM "Brain" from an online Florida company and my car has worked great ever since. Google for refurbished PCMs my cost <$300.00 and only 3 screws to change out. CAll the PCM company and tell they staff about your problem -- see if they think it is the brain. Sounds like same problem I had.
It could be the park/neutral switch, next time it doesn't start try wiggling the shifter in park while turning the key, or shift to neutral and see if that will work. if that doesn't change the problem I would replace the ignition switch.
