the 03 nissan sentra, starts hard, usually the second try, just replaced the alternator, and yet the emergency light and the break light keep turning on, "even while driving"

My daughter dismantled the air intake manifold hose while "playing mechanic" but couldn't put things back, so I reconnected everything.
Now the Nissan Sentra 2004 won't stay started while in park unless it is started many times, then all of a sudden it'll work great.
I've checked the air sensor connection and seems ok.
The car started excellent prior to this dismantling.
    Any suggestions?

My car starts hard only when the engine is cold. When the engine is warm, it starts great. I was told I need a new cold air intake sensor. Will that solve the problem?

If it cranks for a longer time than normal and than it starts, you my friend need a new fuel pump rebuild kit/pressure regulator inside the gas tank. what happens is that the fuel will go back into the gas tank instead of staying in the fuel line and everytime you turn the key, the pump has to pump fuel all the way to the injectors again to get the car started. So, long crank and than start means fuel pump rebuild kit/pressure regulator in tank.

I have 2003 Nissan Sentra, 2.5, and I have replaced the fuel sending unit at least twice, maybe three times. Last time was in April of 2008, and in December of 2008, it started doing the same thing again. Not wanting to start, have to keep cranking it and it will finally start up. Seems to be worse when it's cold outside, and when it doesn't get started for more than a day.

The service tech at Nissan said he replaced his Fuel Pump, rather than the whole fuel sending unit, will this help? Any advice would be great.

Thanks!

2003 Cuts off when hot, will not start untill cool

My 2003 nissan sentra would get hot and stall out even in middle of highway doing 70 mph. The guages would go up and down. Would not start up all the time after stalling. had to cool down first. Nissan said it was head gasket, and wanted to charge 1000.00 for the job. I took to local dealer who charged me 550.00. Works fine ever since. Nissan dealer said they do like 3 head gaskets a week on the sentras. They have crappy ones in original parts. They have not recalled though.

Hello

After the new sensors are installed and the code still comes back, replace the timing chain. They have been known to stretch and cause the P0335 code on these engines.

My 2003 Nissan Sentra is getting terrible mileage

Two possible problems

1 - O2 Sensor

2 - Mass air flow sensor(Most common problem on Sentra's)

Spend a 100 buck and have a nissan dealer check it out for you as they would have the tools to check the sensors correctly

2005 nissan sentra 1.8 liter wont start cold ...

These vehicles had issues with fuel pressure bleeding down when they sit for a period of time (like overnight). Nissan has issued a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) on this issue.

There is a check valve in the fuel pump assembly that holds fuel in the fuel line so that fuel is readily available to the engine. This valve fails and allows that fuel to slowly drain back to the tank. The reason you have to crank the engine for a long period of time is that the fuel has to be pumped from the tank all the way to the engine- may take 10 seconds or more.

Once you start the vehicle, fuel is available and since the drain back to the tank is slow, restarting after even a few hours will be much easier.

The repair involves replacing the fuel pump "module" assembly (it's a service kit that contains the check valve mentioned earlier). The fuel pump assembly is removed from the tank and disassembled and reassembled with several new parts. This is a dealer-only repair. Depending on your level of expertise, you may be able to perform the repair yourself, but will have to buy the parts from the dealer.
