Question about 1996 Toyota Camry

Electrical fans The electrical fans run permanent on the 2.2 Camry . None of the fan 1 or fan 2 relays are operated .the sensor on radiator was already changed . I took the car to toyota locally and a motor electrician , but they can't get the problem..

The cooling fans always receive power form the battery. The relays, when applied, allow the ground to pass onto the fan motors to operate them. Either your relays are stuck in the "active" position, or your fan motor wires (white with the black trace) are getting an unwanted ground. Remove all 3 of the relays, and the magnet clutch relay, see what happens. If the fans quit, the relays are at fault. If the fans continue to run, you have a fan motor ground wire shorted to the ground.

The primary radiator fan does not come on.


Check Maxi fuse #3 60 amp in the under hood electrical center #1 .This is power for the #1 cooling fan . Also check the #1 fan control relay in the same under hood electrical center .
These vehicles use 2 360 mm (14.2 in) cooling fans to aid air flow through the radiator. Electric motors drive the cooling fans. These motors are attached to the radiator. Motor size varies with each engine option.
A coolant temperature switch activates the fan motors. This switch regulates voltage to the cooling fan relay. This switch operates the fan whenever the engine coolant temperature exceeds 110°C (230°F). For location and diagnosis, refer to Electrical Diagnosis. A transducer can also activate the circuit, depending on the A/C compressor head pressure going to the condenser.
The engine cooling fan relays provide the high current required for the cooling fan motors using a low current signal coming from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). This signal is a function of various inputs.
Refer to Electrical Diagnosis for further information and diagnosis of the cooling fan relay.

In the under hood fuse / relay box ! There are three of them COOLFAN/relay 1-2-3 . It's marked on the under side of fuse box lid .
The engine cooling fan system consists of 2 electrical cooling fans and 3 fan relays. The relays are arranged in a series/parallel configuration that allows the powertrain control module (PCM) to operate both fans together at low or high speeds. The cooling fans and fan relays receive battery positive voltage from the underhood fuse block.

Where is the fuse for motor fan in uplander 2006?


there is 2 fuses that you have to check
one will be in the big fuse assembly in the engine bay, the other probably in the fuse assembly in the cab
If they prove ok then it is possible that the coolant temperature SENSOR is faulty and needs replacing
don't confuse it with the temperature sender which operates the temp gauge.

Are you talking about the radiator fan? How hot does the engine get in degrees F? Some makes and models, the radiator fan won't turn on till about 220 degrees F. Check for applicable trouble codes, see if any code that refers to the radiator fan circuit or coolant temp sensor? Some of the national brand auto stores will check codes for free.

Of course, as far as overheating in general, you have the thermostat--water pump and other possible issues. Are you losing coolant?

I have a 1995 camry and the rad fans aren't working! any suggestion


Hi Jan, Open the bonnet (hood) and have a look for the fan fuses and fan relays. I believe either a fuse has blown, or a relay is not working. A simple way to test the circuit is to disconnect the electrical connection to the sensor at the bottom of the radiator. With the connector left unplugged, turn on the ignition and the fan should start immediately. If it does not, the problem is with the relay or the fuse. Regards John

The fan of my radiator is not turning on i REPlace the radiator the houses the two sensor of the tempture but still is not working and also replace the thermostat


Its an electrical problem, either the fan itself is no good or one of the controlling relays are not closing. Check all your fuses carefully, one may be the power circuit to the relay (there usually is no fuse to control the fan). Check power and ground at the fan itself using a test light. with engine running disconnect the coolant temperature sensor, fan should come on immediately. If you have power and ground the fan motor is no good. If no power reconnect the fan and go to the electrical underhood center. Swap the fan relays one at a time with another same relay (try ABS or A/C one, not starter relay). If it runs you have a bad relay.

How to change the radiator fan?


Electric Engine Fan - Fan Switch

Removal & Installation
2.7L Engine
  1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
  2. Partially drain cooling system.
  3. Disconnect the electrical connector .
  4. Remove engine coolant sensor from coolant outlet tube .
To install:
  1. Apply thread sealant to sensor threads.
  2. Install engine coolant temperature sensor into coolant outlet tube.
  3. Tighten sensor to 20 ft. lbs.(28 Nm) torque.
  4. Connect electrical connector to engine coolant temperature sensor .

3.2L And 3.5L Engines
  1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
  2. Partially drain cooling system.
  3. With the engine cold, disconnect coolant sensor electrical connector.
  4. Remove sensor.
To install:
  1. Install engine coolant temperature sensor.
  2. Tighten sensor to 20 ft. lbs.(28 Nm) torque.
  3. Attach electrical connector to sensor.
  4. Connect negative battery cable.
Removal & Installation
  1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
  2. Partially drain cooling system.
  3. Remove upper radiator hose.
  4. Disconnect cooling fan electrical connector.
  5. Remove cooling fan mounting bolts.
  6. Remove radiator cooling fan assembly from vehicle.

To install:
  1. Position radiator cooling fan assembly in vehicle.
  2. Install cooling fan mounting bolts. Tighten to 50 inch lbs. (6 Nm)
  3. Connect cooling fan electrical connector.
  4. Install upper radiator hose .
  5. Fill cooling system.
  6. Operate engine until it reaches normal operating temperature.
  7. Check cooling system and automatic transmission for correct fluid levels.

Trying to find coolant fan fuse for 1996 jeep cherokee sport


cooling fan fuse should be third up from bottom on right on cabin fuse block. there may be another in power distribution center under the hood. Not sure if you mean radiator fan. to check, first hot-wire fan to battery. if it runs check fuse and relay. Radiator fan operates like this: coolant sensor sends signal to computer that sends ground signal to fan relay that then completes power circuit to fan. Difference in cabin fan is that the dash control sends signal to relay, then to resistor bloc, to fan motor.All electrical components require power and a good ground to operate properly.

1994 2.2L toyota camry radiator fans do not work


Hi.....

The Normal Temperature Range to the Fan Start is: A/C ON 181 F.
A/C OFF 199 F. When the Engine Reach this Temperature the Fan should start.

OK. Do this simple test.
1---- Start the engine, Desconnect the ECT Switch located on the Radiator,
See if the Fan come ON. If yes, if not go to step #2
Connect the ECT SWITCH and leave the car Running and with a Temperature gage.
See the temperature, if the Temperature go more than 199 F.
Turn the Engine OFF.
Disconnect the ECT sensor and check for Ground at the WHITE/BLACK wire.
If ground exist, Replace the ECT switch.
But if not. Check the wire for any damaged, and the ground at the Front Left Fender.
Repair as need.

2---- check the Fuse link RDI FAN . 30 amp.
Check the Fuse link CDS FAN 30 amp.
Replace if need.
And Return to step # 1.
Check the Radiator fan Relay, Rad fan relay 2 and 3. Replace if need.

Ok. I hope this help on your question.

Fifteen minutes! you have bigger problems than only the fans the fans are controlled by a thermo switch that is heated by the coolant, If you have no coolant the sensor cannot activate But fifteen minutes seems like you may have a headgasket problem and steam cannot heat the coolant sensor.OperationNotesThe electric cooling fan operates when the engine cooling temperature exceeds a certain value. The cooling fan on this engine is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) . The PCM turns the cooling fan ON by grounding the coil of the cooling fan relays when certain conditions are met. When the A/C is requested, the cooling fan will also be turned ON.

Power for the cooling fan motors are supplied through Maxifuses(R). The cooling fan relays are energized when current flows from the fuses in the Underhood Accessory Wiring Junction Block, and through the relay coils to ground through the PCM. The Coolant Fan 1 Relay Control Circuit is grounded for low speed fans operation. During low speed fans operation, both fans run at a slow speed. The Coolant Fan 1 Relay Control Circuit is grounded for high speed operation. During high speed fans operation, both fans run at high speed.

IMPORTANT: When certain Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) are present, the PCM may command the cooling fans to run all the time. Perform the A Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check prior to diagnosing the engine cooling fans.

For more information regarding the Charging System, refer to Charging System Description , and Charging System Circuit Description in Starting and Charging.

If a problem that involves the low speed cooling fan relay control circuit exists, DTC P0480 Cooling Fan Relay 1 Control Circuit should set. If the problem affects the high speed cooling fan relay control circuit, DTC P0481 Cooling Fan Relay 2 Control Circuit should set. A problem with the ECT sensor should set DTC P0117 Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor Circuit Low Voltage, DTC P0118 Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor Circuit High Voltage, DTC P1114 Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor Circuit Intermittent Low Voltage, DTC P1115 Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor Circuit Intermittent High Voltage. Any of these DTCs will affect cooling fan operation and should be diagnosed before using the Electric Cooling Fan Diagnosis.
