1976 Pinto Wagon Overheating hoses springing leaks

I used to build these engines on the assembly line in fords many years ago and the pinto engine was a special build for the californian emmisions controls ,remember them well with all these fancy valves and things and low compression engines compared to the same engine in a transit or cortina. Now the main thing is or could be is a blocked radiator where engine has been run with no antifreeze or a faulty head gasket, now htese engines hada cast block and head so they didnt cause much problem but the gasket used was not a copper gasket but a compound one which sticks like a the proverbial to a blanket and this is what i suspect --its 40 yrs old and i do feel a good head overhaul would not go amiss ,now these engines had stellite coated valves and seats even in them days so burnt valves will not be a problem so clean the valves ,a small lap in and new valve stem seals and i think this will cure it ,dont forget the antifreeze its also a anticorrosion agent as well ,50% but cleaning the old gasket off the head and block faces is hard work and for this i use a flat bed sander ,get a complete gasket set as this has the new valve stem seals in it ,uoi do not need to remove the camshaft as the head bolts are either side of the cam and they are a spline not a socket ,the timing on the 2.0 lt is easy and if the belt does break the valves do not hit the pistons on this size engine but they do on the 1.6 .the belt adjuster bolts are also a spline and not a headed bolt .This engnie is easy to repair and apart from the splines no special tools are needed the head bolts tighten to 65lbs the tappet settings are HMMM long time ago ?? 12/14 inlet and 18/22 exhaust as they were set with a air flow meter and not manual as the assembly line was all automatic --except for the trade unions who stopped the automatic machines and insisted on manual construction -long story but if you fitted this engine with a bunch of bananas exhaust and a nice twin choke weber as in the 2.0 capri then it was a racing machine but the american version so de-tuned to comply with the emmisions ruling that it was slow compared to our cortina GT or capri ,even the transit had this engine and fit the GT engine and you a good getaway vehicle for a bank robbery .The good old transit van ,,,,what a tool

Ford Capri 1600 SOHC engine problem

sometimes there are no "timing marks" usually the best way of doing it is to align the bottom timing marks on the crank and make sure that it aligns the cam marks, which might be something as simple as a little hole on the cam pulley. if you have dived into this and don't have a lot of experience (not trying to be mean) one the best things to do is to get a your hands on a haynes manual, they will have a complete and total breakdown of the headgasket removal/reinstallation procedure, documented in better detail then i cold ever give, in addition to including pictures. So look for the drill holes, or tiny raised dots for the timing marks, sometimes the crank may just have a small groove on the outside edge. make sure everything is de-greased and clean so that its easy to see....I hope this helps to some degree. Best of luck

Cold start problem: 2005 BA Falcon wagon

next time it wont start, pour hot water over ecu, if it starts replace ecu, you will need a scanner to reset as it will go into theft mode when you fit new ecu, beware that this is a common fault and you can buy 2nd hand faulty computers.
