The battery is likley gone; but if I had a voltmeter, I would make sure the alternator is trying to charge it. The voltage should be at least 14 volts at the battery when the engine is running and the jumper cables are removed.

If the battery have, as you have said charged it more than an hour, it must be already dead and would not accept charging. It means the cell plates inside are all exhausted.
Try to go to your battery dealer and have a free check up. They have a meter load tester that assesses your battery if it is still good or need be replace. Ask them to check your charging system too!
The charging system should have a 13 volts to 14 volts output!
