You very likely are going to replace the fuel pump, well i recomend you check the vw recalls on failing fuel pumps or related fuel lines and fasteners.
I own a 2004 vw golf and began to leak fuel at the fuel delibery nipples right out of the fuel pump. the problem is that either there tension on the nipple and cause to crak thus leak, or the fuel line is short and pulling toward the rear right tire causing it to crak and leak. the
Volkswagen Golf Recall 05V154000 is the solution
this recall is for a vw golf 1999-2000 but all the fuel pumps around vw 's 1999 up to 2006 have the same problem but you need to put acomplain with the NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV.if your car is not under these recall. Fuse # 28 will stop the fuel pump so you can remove it

Hi,
You will need "VAG diagnostic software" - (google it) on a laptop and a £15 VAGCOM interface cable if you want to do it yourself.
Cheers, D.

SOURCE: mk5 golf emission workshop

Your EGR Valve is clogged and has to be changed. I have tried removing, cleaning and replacing it, this only lasts from one hour to one week.

The fault code 'P3103 V157 - Intake Manifold Flap' comes up on the diagnostics, and if you look in your fuse box (next to the battery) you will see a blown 10amp fuse. This is a sure sign that your EGR (or Intake Manifold Flap) is stuck.

This unit costs about £235 - £250.
Good luck mate

SOURCE: how to replace tail light on VW golf mk5 estate

Although you posted this question under a 03 VW Golf and you have a MKV. The best I can do is a MKIV set up. From the rear trunk there are access ports just for this job. The right port will be just above the light housing you will find a wire harness for the right assembly. Follow the harness and it will lead you to the assembly. Once located you can squeeze the two tabs and pull the circuit board where the bulbs are installed. Push on the bulb and twist anti-clockwise then pull out of the socket.

The left should be the same procedure and it is located behind your audio components.

NOTE: It's a good idea to wipe your hand and the glass bulb, leaving oily residue will cause early bulb failure once in operation.

2005 golf mk5 1600fsi low fuel pressure replaced high pressure pump low pressure pump and pressure switch still the same does ecu need update

Check for a fuel pressure regulator. If you are testing the pressure at the end of the line, the fuel has already passed through the regulator. I'd be willing to bet the pressure coming from the pump(s) directly is up to snuff.
