The "curly" line is the preheater inicator light,it comes on when the engine is cold and needs to "preheat" the combustion chamber,it works when you open, then close the door,.....if you wait too long to put the key into the ignition, wait for the curly light to fade out then start the car it will take longer to start the engine(it may take 2/3 tries )SOOOOOO, open door, get in, shut door, then start car, before you put on your belt/look in the mirror to check your makeup(sorry had to get THAT in....LOL... my wife has this routine).

I just replaced the purge valve solenoid

There could be several reasons why your car is having difficulty starting after replacing the purge valve solenoid. Here are a few things to consider:

Make sure the solenoid is properly installed: Double check that the solenoid is securely fastened to the engine and that all of the connections are tight.

Check for vacuum leaks: A vacuum leak can cause engine performance issues such as difficulty starting and shaking. Look for any cracks or leaks in the vacuum lines.

Check for other engine issues: It's possible that the issue with your car is not related to the purge valve solenoid at all, but rather a different issue with the engine. Consider having a mechanic diagnose the problem to determine the root cause.

Check the fuel system: If the fuel system is not functioning properly, it could cause difficulty starting and engine performance issues. Consider checking the fuel pump, fuel filter, and fuel lines for any issues.

When my opel astra 1.6ie is cold it struggle to start, and cant rev when its cold, but when its warm it becomes normal. Anybody have advice for me please.

Identical cold start issue on my Astra IE 1996 F series after the engine got rebored - after months the new oil pump was found to be faulty & clogged-up & replaced by the spares supplier - the car then ran perfectly after this. I was told the blockage created a backpressure & the computer was stopped it starting.

16 years later - 10 yrs after the last service covering just 8600km (last 2 yrs car hardly started) has identical cold issues again. It can be driven around & wont take long cold start in our warm coastal winters. The good mechanic seems to be giving up trying to fix my old car but refuses to believe its a low oil pressure issue saying that just makes the oil warning symbol light up & doesn't affect a car starting. I want to check if the engine warning light works on starting showing the low oil pressure sensor is working. But his now busy searching for a Astra specific temperature sensor.

What is the warning light on 2005 vw gti

Hello! A thermometer light with two wavy lines underneath the thermometer indicates a problem with the VW's cooling system...When the engine is cold; Check the coolant level in the radiator...If it is full and since the light goes out when the engine reaches normal operating temperature the Low Coolant Level sensor is defective...But I suspect the level is low..

I have 1998 740i BMW that is overheating. 1) What are the warning signs of a bad water pump? 2) What are the warning signs of a blown head gasket? 3) What are the warning signs of bad timing?

Timing - engine is not sounding right or back firing.
Head gasket - water and oil mixing, see inside water bottle. or open bottle. rev engine when cold, if starts spitting water out while cold like a fountain.
Water pump - Water leaking from side of engine. or when car started and water bottle is open and no circulation is visible could be signs of water pump
Remember - Block radiator lines can also cause over heating problems and lack of water circulation.

BMW 325xi; 160k; check engine light on-->next day, wont start!

I would try to jump it to see if the starter engages and the engine runs, if it does you have a connection problem between the engine starter and the battery, if it does the same thing with cables then you will probably have to tow it in to the shop. I do not think your problem is related to cold weather, but it could very well be related to the check engine light. Exactly what the check engine light is on for I can not say with out a code, but I agree with your thinking about taking it to the shop. Hope this helps, let me know.

Difficulty starting car- egine cranks but car does

2008 nissan versa should still be covered under warranty. take it to the dealer. possibly the anti-drainback valve in the fuel pump is broken and the fuel lines are becoming depresurized when it sits. this will cause the car not to start until the pressure build up.

Idiot light that looks like a church comes on in the mornings

That's the low coolant level warning. There's a sensor located in the overflow bottle. Most likely when the engine is cold - like when you first start the car up the level is too low. Try adding coolant to above the line - it's a self leveling system so you won't hurt anything.
