Question about 1993 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Wiring harness in center console cut

The harness containing wiring for radio, cigarette lighter, pwr/eco switch, overdrive switch, etc has been cut. An aftermarket cassette deck was installed (incorrectly), and I have no idea what these wires go to. Many of them are not connected to anything. Please help!

The CHILTONS 1990-1993 Mitsubishi eclipse repair manual has extensive electical, vacuum and other such diagrams fo this vehicle about $25 at auto parts store or online. this is probably one of the most extensive resource on this vehicle, well worth the money. in fact in most cases it payes for itself the first time you use it. (in savings on mechanic/repair shop visits. it has trouble shooting and a comprehensive chapter on every system in the car.

Speakers in my 2000 cadilac escalade stopped working when i held my cigarette lighter in and it melted the lighters coil and it blew lighter fuse . But my radio stayed on .changed fuse still nothing

Not sure why you'd force your lighter in ???, but hey I think if you look at legend for your fuse panel on lid ,it may say that the lighter is part of the accessory's group and so is the sound (pwr) booster for your radio , I think this is part of your problem , overheating socket may have caused a perminate wiring fault to exist in your lighter now

How do you remove a cigarette lighter socket

I'm assuming this is the lighter in the center console by the beverage holder? If not I'll need more details.
.
First you have to make sure the power is cut to it, so either pull the fuse or disconnect the battery. Warning, disconnecting the battery WILL reset things like radio settings and clocks.
.
Now get yourself a flat-head screwdriver. You want to carefully unsnap the front of the beverage holder console, and once the front is unsnapped you can lift it to unsnap the rear of the beverage holder console and remove it.
.

.
Now grasp the top part of the cigarette lighter's panel and pull it straight out. Make sure you don't yank on the electrical connections. I'd suggest unplugging them so you can work on the lighter easier.

.
From there you simply have to unscrew the retainer from the socket and remove the lighter.
.
If you're installing a new one, just reverse the process.

My lighter doesnt work, i have two and one doesnt work

There are actually FIVE cigarette lighter/ Auxilliary Power Outlets shown in the wiring diagrams for your vehicle.
The Instrument Panel [1] Accessory Power Outlet (Cigarette Lighter) is protected by the "LTR" Fuse (# 53 - 20 Amp) in the Power Distribution Center (PDC) in the engine compartment.

The Instrument Panel [2] Accessory Power Outlet is protected by the "AUX PWR" Fuse (20 Amp) In the Instrument Panel Fuse Block on the left side of the dash.

The Center Seat Accessory Power Outlet and the (two) Center Console Power Outlets are protected by the "AUX PWR 2" Fuse (20 Amp) In the Instrument Panel Fuse Block on the left side of the dash. NOTE: If your vehicle is not equipped with the Center Seat Accessory Power Outlet, or the Custom Floor Console (optional), this fuse position will most likely be empty.

Is their anyway to get the power socket, cigarette lighter kind, to turn off when i turn off the car?

There are two ways of going about it. The best way to do it would be to use a relay. Cut the 12v+ wire going to the cigarette lighter, hook one side up to terminal 87 and the other side to 30 of the relay. Ground pin 85 and hook up pin 86 to a switched ignition wire. Doesn't matter too much which ignition switched wire you use. The radio is near by and has a switched ignition wire you can tap off of. The relay draws very little current so it won't affect the other circuit. Doing it this way keeps the power to the cigarette lighter on the original circuit, but switches it on when the ignition is on. You can purchase an automotive relay like the one pictured at radio shack or any auto supply store for a few bucks.

Cigarette lighter came undone. how do I reattach?

I had this problem as well. Start by removing the small plastic plate by the emergency brake (Pull the brake up). It just pops off, Then remove the left side of the middle console that includes the cup holders and ash tray. It will loosen and you will have to manuever it to take it completely out - turn it sidways to get it out from the shifter, You will need to do this to get to the two screws holding in the front panel where the cigarette lighter is at. Using a phillips screw driver, unscrew the two screws at the very botton of the panel near where it would meet the center console. These screws are hard to get to but can be done. Once you have removed the screws, starting at the bottom, begin to remove the panel slowly as the wiring will still be attached. Unclip the emergency blinked power clip. The cigarette will have two plus that will clip off. The wiring will still be harnessed to the panel, By using a flat screw driver, you can push in the plug clips from the opposite side and the wiring plug will come out. Now you have the panel completely out. Position the cigarette holder in, the metal clip with the little handle goes to the rioght hand side in between the two plastic plugs.holding this all together, there should be a metal ring that will screw back in to hold the cigarette holder in place. once this is secure, plug in the three wiring clips and then plug in the wiring harness once you have the panel positioned to put this back in. once your wiring is back in re-mount the panel and put the two screws back in. Put in the center console molding and then put in the small molding by the parking brake.

I am a woman with no mechanical experience , so goes to show you that this is possible. Time it took me to repair - 30 mins including figuring out the panel screws etc.

Aux Pwr Outlets not powered

there is a plug on the back of cigarette lighter. it has two wires. it could possibly be unplugged. test it there. it should have the positive wire in the center and ground on the outside. the cigarette lighter receptacles go out sometimes and can be replaced if you have voltage in wires but plug in doesn't work.

Auxilary power, electric windows, cigarette lighter and radio not working

Since all fuses are okay, I would start my trace from the fuse box and pick the easiest wire to trace which would probably be the lighter or aux. Check for any breaks in the line or any lose connections. It seems like a harness may be disconnected or cut.
