I have a 1994 eagle talon its been siting for 5 years it will not start unless i spray starter fluid in it and only stays runing as long as i keep spraying i think it may be the fuel pump but not sure if it is. i think the fuel pump is in the tank but not sure should i drop the fuel tank and buy a new pump?????

Engine stall or RPM fluctuates at idle.

This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control

Start with a can of starter fluid. You will probably need to take the air intake hose off to get to the throttle body. Spray the fluid in and see if it will take.If it wants to start once you done that; it is fuel related and will need to consider the fuel pump. If it doesn't you will need to get a spark tester to see if you are getting any spark. If you aren't you will need to see why...check for codes they can help if it is spark related. If it is fuel related, the starter fluid is one of your best tests.

alternator maybe, the starter creates the current to start the car the alternator keeps the current it can also ruin the starter and the battery ask autozone

recheck the time and the firing order

Sounds to me like the ignition module went out. I would test the ignition module, then I would test the clutch safety switch. If these test out fine I would test the starter and replace it if it is suspected to be bad.

No lights really seems like the battery might be dead, or a fuse is blown. Check the main and alt. fuses.

You'll need to look under your vehicle and along side the transmission you should see it. If you don't know what you are looking for as far as a description then you can Google "eagle talon starter" and find a picture on one of the offered matches.

Could be:

1. Wrong fluid. Cheap, Just have it serviced with a fluid change.

2. Not enough fluid. Cheap. Go to parts store and add some according to owners manual.

3. Bad fluid. Too old or burnt. Have the fluid changed.

4. Transmission is about to go out. Very expensive.

i would check the coil or, distributor unit and wires then, i would also check the battery for weakness. if the batt is fine, check the starter and wires that lead to the starter as well. sometimes the starter wires can jiggle themselves loss at times. hope that helps ya and thx for using fixya:)

NOTE:

• the 95-96 year models, have a few sensor plugs that are different than the 97-99 models. such as the coil pack and the cam angle senor.

Could be your ignition switch.
