Check out the wrenches that are available at the auto parts store where you'll purchase the cables from. It's a good bet that they'll have what you're looking for at the same place.

Remove a starter

  • Remove the negative and positive lead on the battery.
  • Locate the starter under the vehicle. The starter will be located to the right of the motor on the bottom. Access the bolts comfortably from underneath the truck.
  • Remove the bottom bolt with a socket wrench. The ground cable will be attached. Save the bolt for reinstalling the starter.
  • Unbolt the positive cable on top of the starter. Use a socket wrench to remove the bolt.
  • Unbolt the top of the starter with a socket wrench. The starter will be loose.
  • Pull the starter straight out. Use both hands to pull out and forward as the starter is heavy. Pull forward and lower to the ground.
Installing the Starter
  • Position the new starter in place. Match up the starter to the designated bolt holes on the mounts.
  • Start the top bolt. Turn the bolt clockwise but do not tighten the starter down.
  • Start the bottom bolt. Ensure the negative cable is run through the bolt before starting. Do not tighten the bolt.
  • Tighten the top bolt with the socket wrench. Tighten it snug. Repeat the same for the bottom bolt. Ensure both bolts are tight.
  • Tighten the positive cable to the starter. Ensure the cable is snug to the fitting.
  • Connect the terminals to the battery. Ensure the vehicle cranks. The starter will engage without hesitation if done correctly.

It is a simple task. First make sure to disconnect the battery's negative cable from the battery. Unbolt the starter wiring. Hold the replacement starter in position and make tighten the bolts. Bolt the starter wiring to the new starter. You can get starter for 2001 ford ranger at http://www.buyautoparts.com/autoparts/2001/Ford/Ranger/Starter.html

How do I get my tailgate cables off? Everytime I try to remove the bolts that hold them on, the bolts just spin freely and never come off.

There is a nut behind that you have to hold with a wrench to properly remove the cables. You can gain access to this nut by removing the screws that hold the tail lights in place.

How to remove a stsrter on a 1993 ford ranger

Hi. here's the procdeure on how to remove and replace new starte for your truck.

  1. Step 1 Disconnect the battery's negative cable from the battery using the battery wrench.
  2. Step 2 Lift the right front end of the Ranger with the floor jack and then lower it onto the jack stand. Make sure the jack stand is under the right front frame, but does not impede your access to the starter.
  3. Step 3 Climb under the Ranger with the socket set and unbolt the starter wiring using the socket set.
  4. Step 4 Support the body of the starter with one hand while you remove the two starter-mounting bolts with the socket set using your other hand. Do not let the starter rest on the loose bolts at any time during this process.
  5. Step 5 Set the old starter off to the side and hold the replacement starter in position. Thread the mounting bolts back in by hand and then tighten them down with the socket set. Once again, do not let the starter's weight rest on the bolts until you tighten them down fully.
  6. Step 6 Bolt the starter wiring to the new starter using the socket set.
  7. Step 7 Climb out and lower the Ranger off the jack stand using the floor jack. Reconnect the negative battery cable with the battery wrench.

2002 Ford Ranger Exterior Tailgate Handle Broken

There should be an access panel on the bed side of the tail gate. If you have a liner installed on the tail gate you will need to remove it to gain access to the panel. Panel is probably held on with torx screws but you may get lucky and have regular bolts. just remove panel and the lock rods are held to the handle with little clips, just pop them off and remove the nuts that hold the handle assembly onto the tailgate, install is just the revers order.

Can't get tailgate to open/unlock.

I had the same problem. It could be that its locked or that the mechanism inside is jammed. There is a access panel on the other side of the tailgate. to remove it you need torx screw driver (looks like an allen wrench tip). reomve all the screws and the panel. the rods that keep the tailgate closed are connected to a plastic piece. sometimes the rod slips out, just wedge it back in and the door should open and close normally.
