The check engine light is on because something is wrong!!do not waist time and money resetting it ,it will just come back on.Take it in have the scan done retrieve the fault and do the repairs and then you will have the battery disconnected while repair is being performed and when repair is completed battery reconnected engine light out.
Buy yourself a obd 2 reader capable of reseting or go to the neighborhood mechanic for a little tip i'm sure he'll do it. another thing that you can do is disconnect your battery wires for 20 minutes when you connect it back drive for two miles if the check engine light comes back on that means somethings wrong with the car then you should get another diagnostic check to pin point the problem.
Stop by an autozone/advance or napa auto parts store, and they will scan your car and tell you what trouble code turned on the light and clear it for you. I know at autozone it's a free service but I
believe most of the big chain parts stores have followed suit. Hope this helps.
