Question about 2003 Ford Ranger Regular Cab

Ignition problems My truck will start up and immediately shut down. It starts up just like it always does but it will shut down. However it will continue running if I keep the ignition switch turned clock wise. I have found other people on forums with the same problem, but no solutions

Year/make/model/engine size??? Important info for any assistance. Sounds as if an electrical component is heating up and causing this issue. Possible ignition coil/ignition module/crank sensor. It could be a lot of other things causing this problem, however, these are the most common sources to cause this issue

Car shutting off

Hi,
whilst i am not familiar with the actual car i would say...
if it cuts out immediately then its electrical...check coil, ignition amplifier etc.
If the car cuts slowly by losing power, spluttering etc it will be fuel related....fuel pump, fuel pump relay, fuel filter.
Does the car restart immediately or do you have to leave it for a while?
what happens just prior to the vehicle shutting down?

Could be a problem in the ignition circuit. Check or test coil and ignition module-one of them may be shutting down or shorting out when they get hot.
Verify by checking for spark at a plug wire immediately after it shuts off: if no spark, it is an ignition problem. Besides the coil and ignition module, other possibilities are the crank position sensor, cam position sensor, ecu, the ASD relay (automatic shuit down relay-it's in the power distribution box under hood). If that relay fails, all power is cut to coil and fuel injectors, and maybe the fuel pump also.
Good luck.

My 1999 Chevy Lumina shuts down while driving and will not start immediately. It may start after a while but will shut down again. When parked, it starts and idles for a while and may or may not shut, but...

it sounds like your ignition module is failing, when the car dies, take off one spark plug wire from the coil and crank the key, see if there is spark. one other issue may be the crank position sensor which can also stop the module from firing a spark

Had a car do this to me twice. Each time was a different problem. My problems were the security chip in the ignition key wasn't making contact and the other was the computer is going bad. Changed the computer and it was just fine.

Truck will not start because the anti theft is on , will start once but when you shut it off it won't start for hour or so later

your ignition cylinder or key have worn down and so every time you put your key in a certain way things dont always match up perfectly thus the vehicle thinks it is being stolen and shuts down the fuel
