Hi,

Among other things to check:
1. "fuel economy is bad" - air and vacuum rubber hoses; check/replace crack, leaking and/or stretched;
2. "surging slightly" - oxygen or vacuum sensor that is located in front of the valve cover, a bit to the left and quite near the battery. It normally has a number of thick hoses and electrical connector/plug attached to it);
3. "CHECK ENGINE light" - any of the two (2) ignition coils that are within the valve cover and are directly above the spark plugs. Check for cracks. Arcing through the cracks could also cause the surging issue.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Your problem could be due to clogged fuel filter or loss of fuel pressure..

This will be an intermittent problem with either the 02 sensor or the VGR valve. Both of these will not emit ant codes when in the intermittent stage of failing.

    Soory, bad typo, EGR valve.

    This still sounds to be an intermittent problem. If you don't want to take it to a shop to be diagnosed, you may have to wait until the problem area goes completely or emits a code, versus spending money on parts you may not need in order to track down the problem.

How to tell if your ecm is bad 96 kia sportage

running fault codes will determine if there is a faulty ECM
try using a scan tool to reset the ECM program as it is easily corrupted by voltage surges and battery disconnections.

Hi there i have a 2000 kia sephiagas seems to be bad or maybe my fuel pump because i have no pick up when i apply the gas pedal the car runs very bad when the ac is on its even worst why

The first thing i would do is to have the fuel preasure checked, low fuel preasure will cause this, next i would have the computer scanned for any stored codes, when the engine is not running right the computer stores codes to and sometimes turns on the check engine light, these codes will help in pin pointing the problem, auto zone auto parts store scans for no fee, so start with these tests.

Hard starting with check engine light and hold light on

If your check engine light is on, take the car to your local auto parts superstore and have them scan for the fault codes. Usually it is free. The fault code will tell you where to start to solve the problem. Hope this helps.
