If your car is an "All Wheel Drive" or "AWD" model, it is always in all wheel drive, there is no choice to take it out of all wheel drive. But if it is a "Four Wheel Drive" There will be a lever on the floor, or a button on the dash that you have to activate to get into four wheel drive. Usually for the latter there will be a light next to the four wheel button.

So, if on the back of your car says "Equinox AWD" it is always in four wheel drive.

Have a 2008 rav 4 need to know if all wheel dr is 4 wheel dr or when should you use it?

The RAV4 is a 4 wheel drive vehicle.
All wheel drive is when all four wheels have power at all times. This can be permanent or manual engaged. Clutches are used to prevent tire damage.
4 wheel drive is when one set of wheels has power and the other two can be engaged manually or automatically.
You should use 4 wheel drive when in mud or snow and extra traction is needed. 4 wheel drive can not be used on dry pavement.

When in 2 wheel drive ,where's the drive ? ? front or rear,?? when driving the 4 wheel auto trans from what I understand, the 2 wheel drive drives from the rear. Does the 4wheel auto drive from the rear ...

you can tell by looking underneath the vehicle-if it is rear wheel drive (primary) the rear axle will have a 'pumpkin' in the center of the rear. I do not know of any 4wd that is primarily fwd-so I would think yours is rwd.

4 motion no longer in motion drives like a 2 wheel drive

i take it you know that IT IS a front wheel drive car that goes into 4wd when needed.NOT a permanent 4wd (it uses the abs/esp/torson diff computerised drive system).to prove this block the front wheels, jack up the rear of the car and put a brick under a rear wheel, then slowly lower the car until the brick gets thrown backwards.proving that 2 wheels will remain still whilst one is spinning...(this test takes 2/3 people to do it right...BE CAREFULL.

I don't know how to get my 2001 kia sportage into four wheel drive

On small shift behinde gear lever there is 3 settings. H4 = 4 wheel drive high range, L4 = 4 wheel drive low range, h2 = 2 wheel drive high range. as soon as jou engage to 4 wheel drive a green light on the dash board will appear to indicate that the car is in 4 wheel drive. if not check fuse - check air pipes at front wheels. I HAVE A 97 FORD EXPEDITION THAT STUCK IN 4 WHEEL DRIVE

Possible solution..Expedition uses a vacuum solenoid on the firewall that controls vacuum to the 4-wheel drive actuator. Vacuum "unlocks" the 4-wheel drive, so you may have a leak in the line to the actuator so the 4-wheel drive is always on. Seems backwards, I know.
