Question about 1997 Cadillac Catera
Have someone check the heater valve. Mine was doing the same thing and two people (Midas and local repair shop) told me it was the heater control valve and one told me it was the heater core. It turned out to be the heater control valve ($115 for part and $160 to put it in).

All Cateras run hot, comes with the car. I have been experiencing the same problem with mine. Although I believe that my thermostat is faulty. They had many problems dealing with the cooling system because of the whole dex cool issue but Check the thermostat to make sure it is opening and the test the heat sensor to ensure continunity. If you get past that you got me.
