Question about 2003 Honda Civic

1 Answer

03 Honda Civic LX keyless remotes . . .

How can I determine if my 2003 Honda Civic LX sedan I bought used is capable of using a Honda OEM keyless remote? The remotes are available online, but the sellers can't tell me what I need to look for to determine if my car can use them.

Keep in mind that I bought the car used and it only came with one master key (black) and one valet key (gray), and the previous owner said he bought the car used as well, so he didn't know if the car ever came from the factory with keyless remotes.

My sedan has electric locks and electric windows (that's what the Honda dealers asked when inquiring about their now non-available keyless remote "kits") with cruise control, and yes, everything works.

Please be VERY detailed about what I should look for to determine if my Civic can use the OEM keyless remote.

TIA . . .

Correct, and thanks! Actually, all they need is the first 10 of the VIN, and for my car, #2HGES165X3H######, it apparently did not come from the factory with keyless remotes nor was it wired with the "brain" (aka receiver unit). So, for me, buying the remotes off of eBay or elsewhere would have been a waste.

Also, there apparently was a "kit" available direct from Honda up until last year that would upgrade non-keyless 2001-2005 Civics to a factory-like installation. But I'm too late for that. Most Honda dealership parts employees recommend I just **** it up and deal with a remote-less vehicle because of many problems encountered after installation of non-Honda keyless kits or even the Honda kit. Less so from the Honda kit, but non-factory keyless kits apparently cause problems for other electrical components downstream. I bought the Civic for its proven reputation as a reliable vehicle, not a constant fixer-upper.

So, I'm chalking up this experience as a lesson learned: buy a vehicle that has the factory keyless remotes and receiver already installed on the vehicle.

Hopefully, this helps other existing and potential Civic owners.

THE DEALER SHOULD BE ABLE TO TELL YOU BY THE VIN NUMBER IF THE CAE CAME WITH A FACTORY KEYLESS ENTERY THAN YOU CAN BUY THE REMOTE PAD AND PROGRAM IT

I believe that you would have to go to the dealer and order this from the parts department.... unless you get lucky on ebay? I doubt they would have it though.

1991 Honda Civic sedan LX; tow hooks

It sounds like you are describing the standard tiedown hooks on many cars used to secure them to railroad cars, tow trucks, and ship decks. I've never seen them as an option on a new car. They may be referred to in the owner's manual under towing.
