I just bought a 95 explorer. the key did not work to unlock any doors, neither did the keyless entry. i just put new baterries in it and still nothing. do i need to program the keyless entry remote?

Try sticking a new button battery in key fob. That's how I program my pt cruiser, same thing.... Weak battery.

does your unlock button work in car? If it does, do you have another keyless entry key fob? If so does it work? If you just replaced the battery you can try removing battery and cleaning contacts within remote. I know some of the nissan altimas had the same issue and the only solution was a new key fob. try closing and locking all the doors then unlock the drivers door with the key

First I suggest check and re-check wires and harnesses connections at/from door lock switches at/from drivers side, some loss or harnesses connections sometimes make this wrong.

If, before this replacement your locks system was working fine, a bad installation could damage this and other components. This could be the answer at intermitent keyless work, or your secuirty entry module is advice go to bad. There isn't way to test this, try re-sunchronized the keys according with your Owners Manual procedure o just will reprogramming with the dealer tools.

To program ( or reprogram ) a keyless entry remote transmitter into the remote keyless entry module, perform the following steps:

1. Turn the key to ON or ACC and short the two terminals of the program connector, a two-pin connector located below the driver's side of the instrument panel at the base of the steering column. All doors should lock and then unlock.
2. Press any button on each keyless entry remote transmitter in turn. All doors should lock and then unlock. If the door locks do not respond, press the button again (up to three times maximum with the same keyless entry remote transmitter). If the door locks still fail to respond, go to Pinpoint Test A.
3. Repeat Step 2 to program additional keyless entry remote transmitters into the remote keyless entry module (up to four keyless entry remote transmitters maximum).
4. Turn key off.
5. Remove the short from the program connector. All doors should lock and then unlock.
6. Verify that the keyless entry remote transmitters have been successfully programmed by pressing the LOCK or UNLOCK button on each one, and observing that the system responds by locking and/or unlocking the doors.

To program the transmitters, perform the following procedure while seated in the vehicle driver's seat:

Close all the vehicle doors.
Remove the ignition key from the ignition lock cylinder.
Press and hold unlock on the door lock switch.
Important: To successfully enter the keyless entry programming/diagnostic mode, steps 4 through 6 must be completed within 25 seconds of pressing the door unlock switch.

While holding the door lock switch in the unlock position, insert and remove the ignition key twice. Do not rotate the ignition lock cylinder.
Insert the ignition key a third time leaving the key in the ignition lock cylinder. The ignition must remain in the LOCK position for the rest of the procedure.
Release the door lock switch. The chime will sound three chimes to signal that transmitter programming/diagnostic mode is active.
Press and hold the lock and unlock buttons at the same time on the keyless entry transmitter for approximately 4 seconds. The chime will sound two times to signal that the transmitter has been programmed successfully.
To exit the transmitter programming/diagnostic mode perform either of the following:
• Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.

• Remove the ignition key from the ignition switch

I believe dealer has to re-program the new code.

Lock all the doors from the inside (with all the doors closed), unlock your driver's door by manually lifting the lock, then press it back down after you are out - this will prevent the alarm from sounding when you use the key to unlock the door.

most likelly you are going to need a mobile locksmith mobile guy, look for one at your local news paper or yellow pages they will charge between 55 to 95 dollars to open it
