Question about 1996 Ford Escort 4 Door

1 Answer

N Reg Ford Escort Cabriolet, locking mechanism

I couldn't close my drivers door and realised the catch had broken, I've managed to get a new one so spent 3 hours removing the old one as there is a black bar that moves te electric window in the way. I now can't get the new mechanism in and can't work out how to move the bar, or even take the window out so as to get it in. So at the moment I have my drivers door beng held shut with a piece of string!HELP

By 'Black bar' do you mean the window guide? If so, this is usually held in place at the bottom by a bolt or screw &, once removed, the guide should pull out downwards. The window should be closed. Your latch might have a black, anti-theft cover on the inside of the door which will also need to be removed.

Rear door will not open on my ford focus ghia t reg

Hi chance are the mechanism inside door jamming. Short of forcing off the inner panel in order to clean lubricate etc I find the best way to get this open is to get someone to keep activating your central locking open and shut while you simply keep trying the door handle at the same time and this can some times just catch the latch in just the right position to get the door open ( you dont need to forcefully be pulling on the handle as the latch will either simply click over on the fine spring latch mechanism or not force is not going to help).
Once and if you manage to get door open take off the inner door card panel and oil lubricate mechanism. rather than then shut door simply use a screw driver on latch to test and worth then working back and forth. If still jamming replace latch.

Drivers door will not latch closed

It appears that the door is not closing far enough for the latch to move to the second position in it's movement. ie on not closing the door properly you will see that it is latched but not closed . Push it harder and it closes properly. Lubricate the latch mechanism and you may have to adjust the catch position to allow the lock to go to the fully locked position POssible rubbers to cold and stiff to allow the door to close easily

How do i access the locked boot on my MK V escort cabriolet as the lock barrel has come out completely and i cant get rear seat out from inside car

If the lock tumbler has come completely out, look inside the hole, do you see a rectangular slot? if so put a screw driver flat tip in this slot and turn like a key it will open, then you should be able to access the lock mechanism from under the lid, may have to remove inner interior panel, the lock should be held in with a clip. Hope this helps, let me know.

CENTRAL LOCKING ON 99 T REG FORD ESCORT

Some of the Escorts do not have central locking. If the keys open both front doors, the hatch and fit the ignition then I would not worry too much about it. You may find that you also have a hatch release catch at the side of the drivers seat also. I trust this information helps you.

Someone tried breaking into our ford escort xr3i cabriolet and the drivers door lock has been broken. It opens from the inside, but we cannot unlock the car from the drivers door, nor open i he drivers...

remove door trim first, then with window up look on back of door lock and you will see u shaped piece of sprung steel that on the back of lock holding it too door skin ,big screwdriver and slide this backwards and door lock is loose .Unclip the plastic bits that sort of clip to the bars that operate the lock and open door .door lock will now drop out.Lock only type,if you have combined lock and handle then normally their are two 10mm headed bolts on inside of door same sort of procedure with the plastic clips but unbolt the handle .1992 doesnt have a factory immobiliser so best advice is big round steering lock over wheel,or a padlock and chain around seat support then on steering wheel .This will put most kids off but being an older car without the immobiliser its a prime target for a get you home car by a couple of drunks .Another trick is a push button start mounted under dash or a coil cut off switch.A friend of mine used to take the rotor arm out,all very well but when its pouring with rain and electrics got wet ,but thats another story.

I have a 1998 BMW 528 I. The drivers side door latch will not catch. So door will not close or lock

Wit the door open, using a srewdriver, use it to throw the catch, then see if the latch locks into position. if it doesn't then a new catch will be required as the locking latch spring inside the latch would have broken
