if you support the engine sub frame at the pulley end then unbolt it you can raise the car. by doing this the motor will lower and It should be enough to give you enough clearance to remove the pulley and balancer.
Before you change anything,,check and see if everything is in line..Also feel all the pulleys and make sure everything turns ok...If the powersteering pump has been replaced,,sometimes the pulley was not pressed on far enough..If it seem to be the harmonic balancer make sure its not damage and the bolt in the middle is tight...If you remove it..You remove middle bolt,,then you have to use a puller to remove the harmonic balancer itself..unusuall for the harmonic balancer to be bad unless it was hit by something
There is a key way in the crankshaft and the balancer with a woodruff key that keeps it locked in place. The woodruff key resembles a half moon shape. You will have to remove the balancer to see what kind of damage there is and go from there.
the crankshaft pulley is also called the harmonic balancer. At any parts house checker, autozone, ect. will have the tool you need.It is called a harmonic balancer puller and bolts to the pulley and pulls it off.Let me know if this helped.
I had this problem and had to block the teeth of the harmonic balancer with a 2-ton hydraulic jack handle (use an assistant to hold) while I torqued on the bolt with a 4-way lug wrench and a length of pipe. Took a minute, but finally we heard the "ping" of the seal breaking and were able to remove that BAB.
