I have a check engine light and I would like to check the error codes to find the problem but autozone says the car is to old for them to diagnose. Is there a way to pull the error codes so I can check them?

Re: check engine light
Yes there is, i need to fin directions to tell you how to, or you can buy an unexpensive code reader, they may still available at autozone, it is a little adapter than you plug to your diagnose conector and give you some flashes on led dependong on the code number like 2 blinks follow by small pause and 2 more blinks means code 22, let me know if directions need it.

Today's cars have many sensors. These sensors read various engine conditions during the operating stage. Since your vehicle did detect an 'abnormality", I would Take your vehicle to a local auto parts store (e.g. Auto Zone). They will will diagnose the problem by reading the *Check Engine Light" code. This is a free service. Only then will you be able to correct any potentail problem.
Does the car have a check engine light illuminated on the dash? If it does take it to autozone and have them scan the computer for trouble codes they do it for free, then you can go on from there with further diagnosing....
I'd go to an auto parts store that will check for any diagnostic codes free of charge (autozone and advance auto both do) and if you have any codes, list them here and I can tell you their definitions and the most common solutions to fix them in detail if needed
There are pages and pages of things that can cause a check engine light. You need to have it checked with a scantool. Then the code can be diagnosed and repaired. (check engine light)CEL light ON means there is an issue the computer has detected. Could be little, could be large. You can get it scanned for free at most auto parts stores for engine codes to tell you what it is. Advance Auto does this free. You can also unhook the pos and neg battery cables for 5-10 minutes to clear any engine codes. This will reset the system. at www.autozone.com its free to get car diagnosed. its risky to drive the car with check engine light ON. thanks.
I think the problem is from the Emission System, something must have gone worng with it. and sometimes it is necessary to check the O2 Sensor as well. But it will be better you scan your car with the computer and so as to know where the problem comes from, so the error code from the scanning will now indicate the repair to be done on your car.
Kindly take your car to an Auto Service Center to retrieve the error codes and then ask then to repair it for you or you forward the error codes to us so as to know the best repair to be done on the car. Thanks
I have a car in the shop right now same thing - it is being caused by a misfire. Need a real technition to diagnose the problem (auto zone - advance auto can't diagnose the problem - only read the code)
mine was caused by a failing fuel injector. good luck
