1999 Intrepid. When it is put into gear it will not move. The problem has been coming on for about a month. I could be going down the road and the car would completely stall out, usually giving me a hard time starting back up. Now today it wont move at all. Help!!! [email protected]

If it's in limp in mode it won't shift out of 2nd gear. Get the trouble codes read. The solenoid pack is a pretty common failure. But don't just throw parts at it. Get the codes first.

the brake shoe anchor pins inside the rear brake disk have rotted away by the sound of it ,doesnt this vehicle require a yearly mechanical inspection where you live with a certificate issued to use it on the road as this vehicle sound like it not roadworthy and could possibly cause a accident if the brakes failed and no emergency manual parking brake ,especially as its a american motor that no doubt has a autobox where their is no control over the slowing down via engine braking with this type of gearbox .

have you tried changing the alternator

may be the distributor as far as the oil light as long as the maintenance has be good it may just be the sensor going bad. Hope this helped Tim

it sounds like a vacuum leak to me, my car had the same problem but when i changed the hose that connected the valve cover to the fuel injectors the rpms dropped back down to about 800 rpms

If you can't move the shifter from park to drive , check to see if your brake lights are functional.The brake switch unlocks shifter when the brakes are applied.

Hi there, I own a 2000 4 motion v6 passat tiptronic. last year october as i pulled away the car did the same thing showing negative on the dash and left me next to the road. through endless troubles i finally got it to a person who can "fix it". 6 months later after guarantee it left me next to the road. The first "fix cost me $1500.00. I love this car but I was **********. 3 weeks ago the car went in and I got the quotation of another $ 1850.00. the previous guy messed up. there is a pressure bowl that shifts to and fro. this gets worn out and burns the clutches wich puts it into a freeze mode so no further damage could be done. What I'm saying, get a good gearbox tech that gives at least a year guarantee. well that's all i've learned through this mess. good luck.

Get OBD2 codes, service transmission , check the speed sensor , camshaft speed sensor. change it, service it, check conection to wires, fuses.

I believe that the cable has to be adjusted. Most cases, the cable adjustment is off. Worst case senario, is the bushing in tranny is worn out.

Your transmission is slipping. You need to get it rebuilt or replaced very soon as it will stop working completely soon.
