I have a 2003 KIA Sorento with the 3.5 V6 and 84,000 on the odometer. Lately I have had problems with the engine cutting out on me. The engine will stutter and then completely turn off at any random time. It has happened when I am in my driveway in park, as well as when I am driving up or down hill or slowing down or at a stop light. There is not really any rhyme or reason that I have noticed other than it usually doing it in the first few minutes or miles of the engine running, though not always the case. I am also getting a hot smell coming from the vents during the first few minutes of the engine running, and this I notice only when I am sitting still. My local dealership has check for codes and found nothing and often cannot replicate the problem. The only thing they have found is a cracked Y pipe in my cooling system. Any help would be great!

Drop the fuel tank and replace the fuel pump. Filter is attached to the fuel pump. Sounds like the fuel pump is failing.

hello. When your check engine light is on it indicates that your car's computer has stored one or more error codes for you to see. If you have an AAMCO Transmission shop in the area they will scan your car's computer for free and tell you what is going on. Same true for the 4 wheel drive light. This is the important first step to solving your issues. Joe

P0355....Ignition Coil E Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction would suggest you need to replace your coil packs. Heat damages them after time and will eventually lead to misfire and very rough running motor especially when it's damp out.

P0700....Transmission Control System Malfunction

I would start researching the possibility of a bad ground, a loose main cable to the battery, etc. If the codes come back, the P0700 can be very serious and could require attention at a Transmission shop or dealership. There is a remote possibility that the codes are entirely unrelated.
