Transmission stuck in limp mode

I have a 1996 Volvo 850 with 66,000 miles. It periodically enters limp mode where it won't start from a stop in low gear but rather tries to start in 3rd gear. Check Engine light is on, Orange arrow on dash is flashing, and Winter/Summer switch LED is flashing. The error code for Check Engine indicates a failure of S2 solenoid. Sometimes the problem can be corrected by turning the ignition off then on, but not lately. I had the ABS control module replaced in Oct '08 and had no recurrence of the limp mode until I had to replace the car battery in Feb '09. Now the car is in permanent limp mode. Local Volvo mechanics (Seattle) say to replace S2 and perhaps transmission. Anyone out there have a better and cheaper fix?

You'll need to take the car down to a shop that is able to hook up to a scanner. The reason why it's in limp-in mode is that the trans. computer is detecting a problem.

I have a 2004 dodge ram 2500 stuck in limp mode. Can't get it out of limp mode any way to dypass?

Not really. You have to have the codes read. Could be as easy as replacing a solenoid. You have to remove the transmission pan to do it. Or it could be a transmission rebuild.

Stuck in limp mode

Limp Mode is usually a transmission failure
that will have to be diagnosed-check for codes
& google what they are

There are overheating & possibly other limp
modes on some vehicles

Can't use it at all like that & not cause a problem

Need a repair shop or dealer

Trans stuck in limp mode i'm getting a p1751 code

P 1751 Shift Solenoid" A" performance. The solenoid is part of the transmission valve body and yes if this solenoid fails you will get limp mode. The only solution is a new solenoid may be even the wires to it or even the transmission module

I have a 2001 Chrysler T&C. The transmission is stuck in limp mode. I have replaced the TCM and it is still in limp mode. I see manys postings with this problem but nobody posts what they did to repair...

Many times on Chrysler products, one or both of the speed sensors screwed into the front of the transmission will fail, and cause the tcm to go to limp mode. Also make sure you have power to the tcm. Someone with a scanner can check these for you, or the speed sensors are less than 20 bucks each, replace them both and cross your fingers. If the transmission has internal problems, the tcm will sense this and go into limp-mode as well.

My trans is stuck in second gear. Is that what

The town and country vans are know for transmission problems and it would not be stuck in 2nd gear if it was in limp mode. Limp mode typically controls the engine. I have seen people do a transmission flush/filter and add lucas to temporary fix the problem. There is also a good chance that the transmission has a solenoid problem preventing it from shifting into any other gears but second. Hope this helps!
