first google hit, the PRO cant just answer as the caller gave no facts.
so he posted this near endless list of VW trans, service,
its funny. (what champ TIM is ) wow.

http://www.justanswer.com/vw-volkswagen/6eus0-refill-automatic-trans-vw-jetta-1-8-turbo.html

buy the book, read it
or google all day.
there are only 2 ways to find facts.
ahh, 3? my public library has the book and mitchell and alldata online
in the library, FREE totally, (prop tax paid, not free)

people posting country free
you get the wrong answers.
wrong place to buy parts
and wrong place to find books,, and wrong parts.
so.......

that is the why they ask you VIN first.
see?
so post your VIN. or its all just lies.

Why does my 98 bug (auto.trans) won t get into 4 th when engine is hot ? (long drive)

im not a vw auto trans expert, but maybe your auto trans needs replacement of the fluid. thats usually the fix with other autos. dont think the engines heat matters, but the gearbox prob heats up on its own as well.

'93 corolla,4 spd.auto trans.speedometer reads10 mph slow and the transmission shifts real fast. Its in third gear bythe time u hit 30 mph. Also wont downshift at this point either.

well what you want to do is change the trans control solenoid or the trans modulator.i know this car has a trans modulator but im not sure that it has a trans solenoid.either way it's a lot cheaper than changing the trans.hope this info helps. take care and good luck, manny

Can't find any parts dealers

You can buy mechanical parts at most auto parts stores. As for trim, body, roof and other parts try VW websites and magazines(Hot VW).

How to add Auto Trans fluid to 1999 VW Beetle & what kind of fluid

Been there tried that. The unit is more or less sealed. You will need to go to a VW dealer to have the fluid checked and added, if required. Be very careful, there's an entry port on the top of the transmission that some cables/wires go through. If you break this seal there is no simple fix. It costs about $700 to have it replaced by the dealer.

Transmission fluid level check 02 jetta tdi auto

VW didn't put a "dipstick" on the trans for whatever reason. You technically have to use the VW Vag-Com scanner to properly check the trans fluid level as VW says it has to be checked at a specific temperature. But there is a "shade-tree" workaround. Start the car and leave the engine running the throughout the entire procedure. You have to get the trans fluid warm-a little under normal operating temp. 95F-104F is what you want-you can attain this after letting the car idle for 8 or so minutes. Continuing, leave the trans in park, and make sure you are on as level of a surface as possible. Then loosen the allen plug on the bottom of the trans pan. You will then see another plug. Remove this plug. Fluid should just trickle out of the hole if it is at the proper level. If it trickles out, you are good. If it doesn't you need to add fluid. Add VW spec ATF through the fill port. The fill port on the top front of the trans is capped off by a red cap and is very visible. Very carefully pry the cap off and then wiggle the plug out. I'd highly suggest having a spare red cap on hand-VW dealer has them. Then you can pour fluid into the trans. Add a little bit at at time, and all the while watching for the fluid to tricke out of the trans plug hole. When it trickles out, replace the inner plug and then the outer plug. That's it. Recheck after driving the car for a few miles. FYI- A flud and filter swap on the the VW auto trans takes 3 liters, so keep that in perspective. I hope this helps you out.

No owners manual need some tech info for a 98 bug

For the automatic transmission to check the oil you need a VAG come or scanner. Oil must be cold like not driven all day and a special filling device from VW. Not a do it yourself procedure. Sorry.
