Did you change the light bulb? sometimes you can not find whether it is out of order or not, you have to use a Om amp meter to make sure it is broken, anyway put a good new one there and see what’s happening. Usually there are many electronic reasons to drain the battery. I don’t think the light bulb cause this case. We will find out step by step.

How to troubleshoot brake light failure

first thing is to check your brake light fuse, most cars trucks have a seperate fuse for the high mount brake light. If that is good check the bulbs, it wouldn't be the first time both bulbs blew at the same time.

Ford explorer 1998 brake lights not working bulbs are fine switch to.can not determine wich fuse in fuse block to check.

On the fuse panel you should have 1 with a picture of a pedal and a bulb, this should be your brake light fuse but just to make sure the best way would be to check all fuses whilst your there
Hope this helps

Right rear brake light out

Open the back hatch and (if no screws on the outside of light cover) and look for a "door" or door panel that covers the inner side of the lights. Once this is off, find the brake light buld, twist and pull,or just pull out depending on bulb type. Put new bulb in, put door/cover back on, check brake light.

First check the bulbs, if they're ok.. the stoplight switch is probably bad (located above the brake pedal)

How do I access a rear brake light bulb to replace it on a 1998 Ford explorer

you have to remove the taillamp assembly. there should be 2 screws(possibly torx heads)on the side when you open the hatch, remove those screws and pull the taillight out-the just unscrew the bulb

2001 ford sports trac brake lights not working ,

This may be a simple fix, where the wheel jack or washer bottle is located in the back behind the panel, there should be connectors for the rear lights, it is possible that the plug has been dislodged, remove the panels and check the plug connections. Good luck.

There should be some adjustment on it, if not replace it, it's about a $12 item.
