Transmission Light and Braking problem

Automatic trans. Pulled out of parking lot. Car seemed a little rough, some slight hesitation, then when I came to a stop, it's as if the brakes were super sensitive and the car jerked abruptly. The transmission light (looks like a gear) was on. I drove to the dealership about 3/4 mile, jerking at every stop, turned off the car. When the advisor turned it back on 2 minutes later, the transmission light was off and the car drove fine. Any ideas?

I have the same issue - but it comes and goes. I have a '98 318i and all of a sudden two weeks ago it stopped while I was idling at a traffic light. It restarted right away but kept shutting off every time I wasn't pressing on the gas. I took it to my mechanic and he ran the diagnostics - no issues came up. He changed the oil and asked if my transmission had ever been worked on - it hasn't, to my knowledge. Then later that week while driving on the highway in stop and go traffic the transmission light came on and it started jerking and sounded like it was running really hard in 3rd or 4th gear while I was going about 65 mph. I pulled over, turned it off and turned it back on and it had reset itself. It started jerking again a few more times that week. It has been about 5 days before I've seen any symptoms. When it happens it always jerks around and sometimes when I pull over it dies before I can turn off the car. Any thoughts? Thx

Hello . did the dealer scan the vehicle anyway , if the light was on it should have a history code safe in memory and they should check for it . it does not matter if the light when out by it self ,it just means that the fault its not present ,(it sounds like a bad mass meter its a fuel manegement sensor that when it goes bad the transmision does not know the force created by the engine and therefore it cant shift properly)

Problems with 4R70W Auto Transmission Hello, I

It is time to pull the trans and rebuild it
Mileage has nothing to with that
If you go to You Tube Video there is a fellow
in Calif that has an excellent site where you
can learn all there is as he takes then apart
& back together
All transmissions have know faults brand new & it is
well known they all will fail at some point
You will get a real eye opener especially with fords
They just keep making junk with no intention to correct
a thing from year to year, That is left to the after market
to come up with the fixes
A dealer takes a reman out of a plastic case & installs
Just parts changers that is all a dealer is
You need a trans shop
Now all they do is trans & don't know cars

Alright, so the other day my wife and I were driving our 2003 Impala and it didn't seem to want to shift out of first gear, with the gearshift put in to the Automatic Overdrive setting and the speed of...

Well, if it is doing all of that, the Check Engine light has GOT to be SCREAMING at you! Continuing to try to force the vehicle to operate under such conditions will only cause further damage to the vehicle. I would recommend getting the thing to where you can scan your onboard computer and find out what is going on.

check fluid level when car running, sounds like a pump wine, is it slight or annoying? you could try lucas oil trans medic additive as well as a trans fluid change. Get opinion from a reputable trans shop, or just drive and ya never know.

2004 sierra 1500 crew cab won't go into park unless truck is slightly moving

Inside your automatic transmission is a cawl that engages a notched ring. If your transmission linkage has become bent for some reason, or the transmission has been moved (an accident, a damaged mount, etc.) then it might take some extra persuasion to get into park. Internal damage to the transmission is also plausible if the trans was abused in some way. That could include putting stress on the park mechanism, even as little as parking on a steep hill and relying on the transmission cawl instead of the parking brake. The vehicle needs to be put up on a lift to check for obvious linkage problems--otherwise it gets more serious.

I have an 1988 ford bronco 2 automatic V6 i pulled

There are shift solenoids in the transmission and apparently there's a problem them. I would get it to a trany shop and have it checked right away. If you continue to drive it you will ruin the transmission. Are sure you put the right computer in the vehicle? If you put a computer from a Bronco II with a manual trans in a vehicle with an automatic trans, the trans won't work right.

Can stationary steering 15-20 times damage car

When you say "runs rough" do you think the engine is running rough , or could it be more in steering/suspension ?
You say looses speed rapidly , I am wondering if it would do that if you tried to coast in Neutral ?
I am kind of thinking about an alignment problem.
Does the steering seem heavy/hard ?
Please get back to me , you seem to have a lot of problems , and I have a lot of questions. Will try to work out an answer.
I don't think you have damaged the trans or axles , but maybe steering rack or pump , or tie rods. May also have a vacuum leak causing some problems.

your trans has lectronic controls to operate the shifting of your trans. If there is a defect, a fault code will be stored in the computer, called a DTC. You need to have someone with a scan tool check for the fault code. It is likely a solenoid that is not working or stuck.

Get the codes first. Autozone can run the test for free on engines, maybe trans codes too. Call your local Autozone or big parts store and ask them.

----------
SECTION 307-01: Automatic Transaxle/Transmission 2001 Escape Workshop Manual
DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION Transaxle Description The CD4E automatic transaxle is a four-speed, front wheel drive automatic transaxle with electronic controls for:
  • Electronic pressure control (EPC) solenoid for shift quality.
  • Shift scheduling.
  • 3-2 shift timing.
  • Coast braking.
  • Torque converter clutch control.
The transaxle features a four element torque converter with a torque clutch and a geartrain that includes:
  • Compound planetary gearset.
  • Chain drive.
  • Planetary gearset final drive.
  • Pinion and side gear differential.
The hydraulic control system of the transaxle has five solenoids that control:
  • Shift feel, through line pressure control.
  • Shift scheduling, through shift valve positioning control.
  • Modulated application of the torque converter clutch.
  • Timing of 3-2 shifts.
  • Engine braking during coast operation.
----------------------------
Solenoid Valve Body Assembly The solenoid valve body assembly contains the transmission fluid temperature sensor (TFT) sensor, as well as five PCM controlled output devices:
  • Electronic pressure control (EPC) solenoid.
  • Shift solenoid A (SSA).
  • Shift solenoid B (SSB).
  • 3-2 timing/coast clutch solenoid (3-2 T/CCS).
  • Torque converter clutch (TCC) solenoid.
---------------------------------
You may need your PCM, Powertrain Control Module reflashed by a Ford Dealer.
Try disconnecting your battery for 1/2 hour and then reconnect and see what happens. It will run a little rough and shfit hard until it relearns your engine/trans characteristics.
Let us know results of tests and DTC codes if you get them.
