Question about 2004 Mercury Montery

1 Answer

Transmission While driving, I lost my transmission. No reverse, first, third, or drive. Car has a little over 60,000 miles. There had been no indication that the tranny would go out. No leakage, no noises, no irregular shifting. Just straight driving, then nothing.

With a little over 64,000 miles and less than four years of driving the van, while driving on a country back road, I heard a clicking sound and suddenly had no forward movement...only the roar of my engine from pressing the gas pedal. How frustrating and dangerous! Luckily, I did not have any children in the van with me that day. I coasted over to the shoulder as far as the van would coast. I could not get the transmission to engage any gear. I had to be towed!

I hav ea 94 lincoln. It works in reverse. I start out in drive. It is fine from 1st to second gear. It will not go into third or overdrive.

This is a computer shifted transmission, if there is a problem with the electrical shift solenoids the system will set a code. Aamco does this code testing from free, I suggest you have them hook it up and see what shows up in the computers memory.

When do you service the transmission on a 2007 Chevy Silverado 1500 4.8 v8

Most newer transmissions recommend checking the fluid at every oil change. With heavy driving (towing, hauling, mountains, etc.) it should be serviced at 60,000 miles. Regular driving with little towing and hauling, it can easily go 100,000 miles. You can also check the wear by looking at your transmission fluid. If it is very dark and smells "burnt" you should have it serviced and have a tech check for unusual wear and damage.

When starting the car the transmission indicator

There is a tiny sensor on the transmission stick, it is miss-reading the position of the of the transmission stick. You really dont need to worry about it. Good luck

TRANSMISSION QUIT WORKING WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD

Pull the trans dip stick and smell it. Does it smell burnt? Your tranny might have gone out. I had an Avenger that the tranny went out at about 60,000.
