'97 Honda Civic dome lights and keyless entry problem

I just installed a new sounds system into the car. After the install the dome lights don't work on automatic (when it is set to turn on when the door opens)

Also the keyless entry system stopped working. I realize that these are both problems common with '97 Civics when installing an audio system but I don't know how to troubleshoot them.

If anyone has an idea or answer that would be greatly appretiated. Thanks
-Kevin

P.S. if you do have an answer would it be too much trouble for anyone to e-mail it to me? please contact me at KCoonF17@yahoo.com thanks again.

According to the deal and several audio specialists, in the '97 Honda Civic if you are considering installing a new sounds system you will need to keep the factory stereo hooked up as well as the new one.

In car audio stores what they do is stuff the factory stereo somewhere in the dashboard with the new one where it belongs.

The signal from all the door switches is fed to the factory radio. From the radio, the signal goes to the dome light. When the radio is removed, the dome light does not work since the circuit is "cut".
Fortunately, there is a very simple workaround this problem. If the car does NOT have a factory alarm/ keyless entry, all you have to do is tie two wires together.
There are two green plugs. Get to the one that is plugged into the radio (if you have both green plugs going into the radio, then you DO have a keyless entry system).
Tie together the Green/Black (at the corner of the plug) and the Green/Red (3rd pin, opposite corner, same row).
Before tying the wires together, test both wires. With the radio plugged in, both wires should get a ground when a door is open and nothing when the doors are all closed. Once you have determined that they are in fact, the correct wires, unplug the green plug from the radio. If the dome light still works, you do not have to worry about it. If it doesn't, temporarily jump with a wire both pins at the plug. If the dome light functions correctly, then you can permanently jump the wires together. The preferred way to do this is to strip some insulation on the wires, solder a jumper wire and insulate with electrical tape.

How to install keyless entry?

I disagree. If you have a key that starts the car then the immobilisor is good. A new remote can be easily programmed, and a new key can too.

My 2005 Honda Civic Hybrid alarm system is no longer responding to the remote control after changing the battery in the remote control. Any ideas on what might be the problem.

Try locking and unlocking the doors with the key to see if it will reset the security system.
It is possible a relay could cause this...there are many relays and computers in this hybrid system

Volume on honda civic radio not working

atxhonda is right. Your going to have to replace the stereo and an aft mkt stereo will be the cheapest by far, however you should know that 96-00 Civics keyless entry control unit is inside the factory unit and by replacing it with an aftermarket deck you will lose you factory keyless entry system. If you don't have or use honda factory keyless entry or maybe you have an aft mkt keyless entry installed than I would go with the aft mkt deck.

Keyless entry on honda civic 2006 not working

The keyless entry is designed to work with the doors closed (closed - not locked). If the door ajar sensor thinks the door is open the keyless entry is disabled. When you manually lock the door it might tighten the door just enough to activate the keyless entry. I would try slamming all the doors closed and then see if the keyless entry works. If it still wont work have the wiring checked on the front door lock.

Keyless entry blinks dome light and does nothing else

The remote is fine - your problem is the lock actuators in the doors. They're a bit of a pain to replace - so, you may want to have a professional do it.

1997 Honda Civic EX Keyless entry programming

If you still have the factory radio, there is a way to split the power wire for the factory radio to the aftermarket radio. All you will need are the power and ground for your aftermarket radio, so the rest of the wires should be untouched on the plug for the factory radio. You can simply re-install the radio within the dash and retain the keyless entry as well as restoring your dome light function. Here's a PDF of some instructions. If you did not keep the radio, I would suggest looking online or ins ome junk yards, because it is needed. www.installdr.com/InstallDocs/Honda/PDF/466013.pdf
