Replace the brake switch. It is located on the brake pedal under the dash. Easy to replace and inexpensive.

It can be as simple as a blown fuse. Do the brake lights work? The brake light switch turns on a soioid that ets you take it out of park. Theres a cable on colullum shifted cars that can break or come off but the brake light swich failing or even the high mount brake light bulbs being burnt out ( depending on what country the car was built for ) the don't what you driving if your brake lights don't work.

Won't go into gear

is this an auto or stick shifted car, ??? we can not guess this, ever.
you said, Gear, that is stick shift and A/T has no gears.
it has, R, D, 1,2,.. selections... are all 4 dead.?
shudders?
starts,
is RPM 800 or more?
you then shift to say reverse...
and step on the throttle , RPM is 800 and it advances to 1500 or more
and car moves,
does RPM go above 3000 and not move
that means , the tranny (or TCM or sensors) are bad.
if your RPM goes to 2000 and is stuck there, and car will not
move in any shifted rage, 1,2,D,L, then the brakes are iced over.
the key to this mystery is RPM. the engine RPM will tell you
what is happening,
for sure.
post it. and we can tell you.

slipping is when the tranny allows RPM to be unlimited at right foot actions.
if the brakes are frozen the RPM will be at the TC clutch stall speed
that is , about 2000rpm max and will shake there. (5sec max doing that)
see the FSM on stall speed, of your A/T
if this is a clutch car, say so, M/T stick car, say so, that be DIFFERENT/

The shifting gear locks, like inside the console. the only way I can change the gears is when i stick a pin into a small hole located on the top left of the console.

Either your brake light fuse, brake switch or shift lock solenoid is bad. Any one of those being bad will keep the shifter locked. Have them checked out.

2001 ford escort stuck in park lever won't move starts normally

If it wont move into gear, the safety switch is malfunctioning. You can take the plug out of the hole on the upper right side of the console just to the right of the gear shift lever. put a philips screwdriver in the hole and press down. this will manually release the gear shifter mechanism.

Honda wont go into nuetral

Hook up some jumper cables to the battery cables on the honda, turn the key to on position and apply brake and then try to shift it. Some cars need power to allow shifter to dissengage. Or just unhook the shifter linkage from the trans. and shift it directly at the trans. just be sure the parking brake is on and wheels choked so it does not roll when you pop it out of park.

shift lock located on your shifter by sticking a key or an small object into the hole to release the lock; Only used when need to shift out of gear if the battery is dead OR the brake sereniod switch goes bad and wont release the lock to the shifter when applying pressure to brake peddle to allow you to move shifter into gear. also state in owners manuel.

I can't get the gear shift out of park once car is started

there is a mechanical release to bypass the break pedal switch under the cover plate around the stick shift. Only 2 screws under console lid then basically pop the plastic parts out until you expose shifter and you will see the release hole. Pull the parking brake. Put a pen down the hole to disengage the lever while moving gear selector to N then start car and put back into P

Wont shift out of park unless I stick a screw driver in a small hole above gear shifter.

You must remove the console yes, and you need to replace the shift lock solenoid.

Gear stick stuck!

Are you pressing down on the brake padle when you are trying to get it out of park? If that don't work check the fuses & there may be a relay that's may be related to a safty divice to the stick shift. If you don't press the brake padle the stick shift will not release so if you leave the car running a child could not push in gear. The lock silinoid is at the gear console
