I have a 1997 chevy lumina 3 1 litter and looks like some water in oil

What can it be,car is sluggish, was overheating, but changed thermostat.acts like it want to die

  • redbone3 Sep 04, 2008

have a 1997 chevy lumina. it constantly overheats when i first drive the car, even if i let it sit and warm up. have changed the lower intake gasket, the water pump the thermostat, and the radiator. it still does the same thing. once it overheats the temp. gauge just fluxis between real low to real high. had a diagnostics and they said it was the radiator. so i changed that and it still does the same thing. now the car stalls and dies on occasion since changing the radiator. what could be a problem that i haven't checked. all the fans work and everything.

To many years on the road probably was mistreated--don't want to make u feel bad but it may be head engine that is about to die--make sure that the tank water always full, fuel pump clean AND all plugs ok

2001 lumina overheating

No experience with this car... But check the radiator for leaks, make sure it is not low. If possible check if the ecu is throwing codes.

Start up and start to overheating

Check your antifreeze level and your thermostat. Low antifreeze will cause overheating, sticky thermostat will also cause overheating.
Check your water pump. The internal pump fans may have come off

1997 chevy express van overheated now no oil pressure

sounds like possibly head gaskets, when you overheated probably warped heads causing coolant in oil and coolant in cylinders therefore partially hydrolocking...antifreeze does not compress like fuel vapors .check oil and see if looks like creme to light chocholate color. this means coolant in oil, this is very ******* bearings, eats them up and if thats the problem you loose oil pressure cause bearings are sloppy from being worn. Bottom Line.you might be looking for another enj.or rebuild

1992 chevy lumina euro 3.1 while driving the engine acts like it is going to die then it regains power and then repeats the sluggish, lack of fuel .

check fuel pressure most likely bad fuel pump. also check your oil sending unit or gauge. chevys run the fuel relay to the oil pressure switch in case the oil is so low the car wont start. sometimes the relay in between this circuit goes bad as well. if all is well check or replace the ignition module (located directly under coils) or distributor integrated if it has a distributor

I have a 1995 chevy lumina and need to know how to change the thermostat, can you help? What do I have too take off of the car to get to the water pump so that I can change out my thermostat?

You don't remove the water pump to change the thermostat, that's not where it is. It's at the engine end of the upper radiator hose that connects the radiator to the engine. How do you know that you need one? Are you overheating? In a car of that age you could easily have a plugged up radiator, you would want a reverse flush; watch the newspaper ads for a discounted price on that service. If the coolant is dirty, not bright green it will be deteriorated and will overheat. For extra they'll also change the hoses and thermostat. It can add up so shop it around.
