Question about 2005 Dodge Ram 3500

1 Answer

RPM Oscillating I have a Dodge RAM 3500, year 2005, with Cummins Turbo Diesel Engine, 6 cylinder, 5.9L, 24V and automatic transmission. The problem is that when I accelerate the engine to 1800 rpm, the engine speed increase from 1800 to 2500 rpm and soon it begins to oscillate betwen 2300 and 2500 rpm. The engine doesn't present/display fault codes. Below 1800 rpm the engine is ok. If I disconnect the boost pressure sensor the fault it disappears and the engine runs correctly I replaced the TPS, ECM (ECU), MAF, Boost Pressure Sensor, but the fault continues.. Can you help me????

2005 dodge 3500 5.9 cummins,it died driving down the road.will not start blows white smoke trying to start.oil leaking at back of turbo, checked turbo bearing seem fine.

You have a blown turbo. You have to replace the turbo the oil is going into the turbo and being recycled into the engine and being put into the cylinders if you keep driving it the way it is you will eventually blow the engine. It will high RPM and be running on oil it is called a runaway turbo. It will burn every ounce of oil in your engine in a matter of min utes and your engine will seize up before you know it.It is an exspensive part to replace but it is a very easy thing to change even for the most un mechanical person.Make sure you change your oil & filter at the same time because you will probably have diesel fuel in your oil as well. The bearing does not have to be bad in order for the turbo to be bad.

Well, Hate to say this to you but your Cummins 24v turbo diesel does not have glow plugs. The fuel temperature necessary for proper ignition is heated by an element inside your fuel filter housing.

Can you rev the engine at about 2000 rpm and for how long without dropping down..
Does the engine have a miss at any time and what type of smoke does it blow (black all the time) while you are running.. Have you a turbo on the engine.
Check the exhaust and the best way is to take it off at the manifold and see if it makes any differance ,, and let me know ASAP RON

Engine replacement

any of the non computerized aka 12 valve cummins will interchange going from the p7100 pump on the 94 to the ve injection pump on the 92 may mean rerouting some of the fuel lines to hook it up. make sure you use all the sensors from the 94 engine though so all your gauges read correctly other than the fuel system the engines are identical though so should have no issues doing this

Charging problem on 1996 Dodge Ram 3500 Cummins Turbo Diesel

I had the same problem on a 94 dodge with the cummins. It seems the crank sensor that reads from a notch on the harmonic balancer was the problem Without this sensor reading that the engine is running the alternator wont charge. Possibly the same problem with yours
