Car engine dying 98 Honda

My wife's 98 Honda Civic "dies" driving along under no unusual load. No codes are thrown. Computer reset. Went on for a few months then had fuel filter, plugs, wires, dist , rotor have been replaced, throttle plate/body cleaned and problems still exists. Intermitent problem. Seems to happen after car has been sitting out in sun for a while. Car usually restarts right away.

I have simular problem. I did an complete tune up and a mechanic replaced my oxygen sensor and cleaned the fuel injector. The car now does not die when idling but runs fast at times. The mechanic said that there was either a short in the wiring or the computer. I am going to get a used computer and try this first.

It's a main relay problem.

Check the main relay. They have been know to cause this problem when they get hot. Also check the Top Dead Center sensor.

Please write a short desciption of what you did to fix your car including where you got the parts. There are a lot of other Honda drivers with this problem who would like to know what you have done.

1991 Cadillac DeVille (has 110,000 miles on it) suddenly dies while driving. Starts and idles fine, but shuts off after driving only 1-2 blocks. What's wrong and how do we fix it?

There are many things that can contribute to this problem. It sounds like it may be ignition related. Possibly an ignition control module or ignition coil. The check engine light coming on while driving is the key to finding the problem. The light comes on when the computer finds a problem and will then store it in its memory. Have the codes checked for what the computer has found to be at fault and with a little diagnostics, should lead you to the problem

Engine died while driving, no spark, replaced coil, now starts, idles, runs well at low rpm, but misfires when accelerating. No check engine costs thrown. What should I check next.

Change your ignition module. The distributor is a weak point of the Honda, I will always change out the whole thing than just try the coil.

Hey there, Ive got a 4 banger 98 accord with a

this is a TCM (tranny brain) operated, A/T
so scan it, in this old car , it either scans with the PCM or
has its own blink codes, the TCM.
D4 means, TCM is Unhappy, please scan me for lastest news !
the engine too, is bad. but id fix that first because the tranny brain
uses,. 4 engine sensors to run'
so scan the PCM (engine brain) first. fix that first.

alldata.com has all this.. every word every step.
why not read that.?
connect scan tool $9 tools work, and scan the PCM. (ask)
get all DTCs (errorrs) and most them,, here ill also lookup
how to scan your old TCM now.
here is lots for free books on this car.
http://hondatech.info/downloads/Auto/Manuals/Accord/

the PCM when scanned will report 10 unique DTC errors
for the transmission.
and VSS, ECT, TPS, and CKP sensors must be good or
the tranny will fault.

1995 Civic Dies

you may have a faulty crank position sensor shutting the spark off. this will throw a code into the computer though my suggestion would be to have the ecm read for codes.
