The Brake warning light comes on. I checked the brake fluid level in master cylinder & it was okay. The fluid looked dirty. Please help

Sharon, Check to make sure emergency brake is not on and fully released, try not to drive your vehicle if the red brake warning light is on. Could have air in the system from a small crack in brake line, faulty master cylinder, faulty caliper etc. Have a good tech. check braking system, diagnose and estimate repair.

ABS light stays on if car is started with parking brake engaged.

The ABS light illuminates when there is an "out of specification" condition. From your description, it sounds like your parking brake cable may require tightening, or there may be an issue where the rear brakes are not properly releasing when the parking brake is released. With car that is nearly 20 years old, it is not inconceivable that the rear brakes and parking brake assembly may require regular service.

A good first step would be to have error codes read out by a local mechanic or auto parts store. This may give you a better indication of the specific problem. In any case, ANY brake warning should be taken VERY SERIOUSLY and corrected IMMEDIATELY, as you may have a potentially dangerous potential of catastrophic brake failure. PLEASE GET THE ISSUE FIXED RIGHT AWAY!

What if the 2000 dodge caravan break light comes on

If the BRAKE light comes on, and the parking brake is not engaged, it indicates a potentially very dangerous condition, where hydraulic pressure is lost in the system. IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE IF THE BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATES, EVEN "ONCE IN AWHILE," WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL.

IT IS ALSO NOT SAFE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE IF THE BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATES WITH THE PARKING BRAKE DISENGAGED.

The cause for the issue may be:
  1. Bad master cylinder (most likely);
  2. Contaminated brake fluid (if the wrong kind of fluid was used);
  3. Bad wheel cylinder(s);
  4. Damaged brake line;
  5. Excessive wear on brake parts (such as pads and rotors);
  6. Defective brake pressure sensor.

Why is the brake light comes on and off while driveing

It cud be a simple fix, but u have to check it and let me know.....If the oil in the brake oil reservoir is low, because of ur vehicle movement, it cud turn on and off....If the level is right , have ur brake switch checked, problem with that could have such problems

Rav4 1996 brake on dash keeps coming on and off

Check the brake pads. They probably need replacing. Brake pads normally have a built in metal conductor which when worn to a certain point it will make contact with the brake rotor which in turn puts a ground potential to the warning light to make it come on.

Fuse pops for brake lights soon as i put it in

This is an easy solution with potentially hours of looking. You have a short in a wire somewhere along the line. It could be from brake light to brake light or the wiring to the fuse panel itself. Another place to check is at the socket itself. Grab a meter and start eliminating.

Abs and brake lights are on

If both the RED brake light and the ABS light are coming on while you are driving the car, you either have an hydraulic failure or there is a problem with your ABS module that can potentially affect your regular service brakes.

The first thing to do would be to check the fluid level in your brake master cylinder. If it is low, you need to find out WHY. There is always a reason for the fluid level to be low. It is NOT SAFE to just add fluid without correcting the problem that caused the fluid level to be low.

If the fluid level is OK, then you must scan your antilock brake module for fault codes. The antilock brake module controls the antilock light and can affect the RED brake light as well. There are many different possible failures that can cause this. There is NO OTHER WAY to know why the antilock module has turned the light on. You can spin your wheels for days, replace a BUNCH of parts and never find the problem if you do not scan the module first.

The brake light comes on, on the dash. Brakes work O.K.2003 mercury grand marquis. 112000 miles. the dealer says the pads are good.

Make sure your emergency brake pedal is all the way up, because sometimes if it goes down one notch, that can trigger that light to come on..It wont be enough to drag or slow the sar down, but it will be enough to turn that light on...Also even though your brakes are good..double check your break fluid level...

The brake lights are routed through the signal light switch.
Looks like that will be the next switch to replace and the problem.

Abs light is on when applyed the brake

It sounds like you have a bad caliper. there should be no leaks at all. That is why the ABS light is coming on. Low fluid level. This is a potentially dangerous problem. If you don't know how to change a caliper and bleed your brake system you need to go the a qualified garage.
