1999 Jeep Cherokee Chief - ac mode selector problems

When I turn on the ac it only blows out of the defroster at the windshield, side window defrosters and at my feet. Is this a problem that is at the mode selector itself or is it in the duct work in the dash? I don't know, I'm not a mechanic at all, but love the Jeep, just purchased it.

This sounds like a vacuum problem. You probably have a leak or crack in one of the plastic hoses that controls the flaps and damper settings. Check under the hood for broken or cracked lines and replace as necessary.

Defroster won't blow air next to windshield

My son's jeep had the same problem. The actuator that controls the the defrost damper came out. Pull the radio out of the dash to gain access to the damper. Looking into the radio hold on the right side you can just see the arm. Move the heater control switch and you can see it moving around. I put a drop of instant glue on the end and pushed back in and its been fine.

Hope this helps.

Your mode door is controlled by vacuum check the vacuum hose on the left side of the intake manifold. these some times fall off leaving your mode door with no vacuum and the default position of the mod door is defrost.
