Engine code where is the aldl connector for 1994 chev corsica. My service engine soon light is on. I know can short the a & b terminal to get the code.

I own a shop, and think this; The light came on, and later (after ignoring it) it started flashing. If its flashing; it means you have a problem that requires attention right away, and should not be driven. You could have a problem that will do severe damage to the engine, and/or other components in the vehicle. If its not knocking, squeaking, or dieing in the road, then this must mean you can still drive it. If your dad is a mechanic, then I would suspect he's going to raise cane at you for ignoring the light. Should you not know something is wrong, and by ignoring the light you could be doing more damage to your car? Check it out before you even attempt to drive it anymore. If it melts down in the road, your dad is going to know. You sound just like my son. He won't check anything until it just dies completely, and then he complains about having to spend more to fix it, than he would have if he had just fixed it to begin with. I'll bet you would fix your computer if it was acting up, so why not your transportation? I don't mean to sound rude, and I'm in no way trying to insult you. I just think you are not doing your poor car any favors, and your dad may go off on you.

93 Saturn SL2 Does Not Start, MIL Light On


Hi, here are procedures from autozone.com for extracting trouble codes from your Saturn:

See Figure 1
To enter the self-diagnostic mode, either connect a scan tool to the ALDL or DLC. On 1991-95 models, use a jumper wire to connect terminals A and B of the ALDL. Turn the ignition switch ON , then the PCM will enter the diagnostic program and report trouble codes on the scan tool or by flashing the SERVICE ENGINE SOON light.
All codes are 2 digits between 11 and 99. Codes are displayed on the SERVICE ENGINE SOON light by flashing the light with short and long pauses to distinguish digits of one code from digits of another. The short pause is used between digits of the same code, long pauses are between different codes. For example, the Code 12 sequence will be: flash, pause, flash-flash, long pause.
  1. When the diagnostic mode is entered, Code 12 is displayed 3 times. This indicates that the internal diagnostic system is operating. If Code 12 is not displayed, the self-diagnostic program is not functioning properly. If only Code 12 is displayed, no system malfunctions have been stored.
  2. Any existing system fault codes are displayed in order from low to high, except for Code 11. Each code is displayed 3 times, followed by the next code, if any.
  3. On vehicles with an automatic transaxle and on which exist stored transaxle codes, Code 11 will be displayed last, then the SHIFT TO D2 (1991-1992 models) or HOT (1993-98 models) light will begin flashing transaxle codes or flags.
  4. When all engine and transaxle codes have been displayed, Code 12 will flash again. At this point, all output devices are driven, except the fuel pump, so these circuits can be checked.
  5. This procedure can be repeated as required by cycling the ignition switch OFF , then ON again with the ALDL terminals jumpered together. The code display will begin again as in Step 1.

Here are some tests for the MAP sensor:
See Figures 1, 2 and 3
  1. Unplug the MAP sensor connector and turn the ignition switch ON . Check for about 4.5-5 volts between connector terminal C (gray wire) and ground.
  2. Check for the same voltage between terminals C and A (black wire). This is a ground through the PCM.
  3. Reconnect the wiring, then install a Saturn diagnostic probe, or equivalent, on the green wire and connect either a voltmeter probe or a scan tool to the ALDL. Connect a vacuum gauge to the intake manifold.
  4. With the ignition switch ON and the engine not running, the return signal voltage should be close to the supply voltage in Step 1, if below a 1000 ft. (305 meters) altitude. If above this altitude, see the chart for the correct voltage.
  5. With the engine at idle, there should be at least 16 in. Hg (54 kPa) of manifold vacuum and 1-1.5 volts on the signal return wire. When the throttle is opened suddenly, the signal voltage should increase. It may only change momentarily.
  6. If the voltage at idle is the same as in Step 1, or if the voltage does not change when the throttle is moved suddenly, the sensor is faulty and must be replaced.

Chevy cavalier 1994 idles low and check engine lights go on


You need someone with a scan tool or someone who knows how to retrieve the codes without a On 1983-94 models, the ALDL connector or Data Link Connector (DLC), located under the dash, and sometimes covered with a plastic cover labeled DIAGNOSTIC CONNECTOR, can be activated by grounding test terminal B . The terminal is most easily grounded by connecting it to terminal A (internal ECM ground), the terminal to the right of terminal B on the top row of the ALDL connector. Once terminals A and B have been connected, the ignition switch must be moved to the ON position with the engine not running.
  1. Turn the ignition switch OFF .
  2. The Service Engine Soon or Check Engine light should be flashing. If it isn't, turn the ignition OFF and remove the jumper wire. Turn the ignition ON and confirm that light is now on. If it is not, replace the bulb and try again. If the bulb still will not light, or if it does not flash with the test terminal grounded, the system should be diagnosed by an experienced driveability technician. If the light is OK, proceed as follows.
  3. The code(s) stored in memory may be read either through counting the flashes of the dashboard warning lamp or through the use of a hand-held scan tool. If using the scan tool, connect it correctly to the ALDL.
  4. After the terminals are connected, turn the ignition switch to the ON position, but DO NOT start the engine. The dash warning lamp should begin to flash Code 12. The code will display as one flash, a pause and two flashes. Code 12 is not a fault code. It is used as a system acknowledgment or handshake code; its presence indicates that the ECM can communicate as requested. Code 12 is used to begin every diagnostic sequence. Some vehicles also use Code 12 after all diagnostic codes have been sent.

I have a 94 blazer and the check engine soon light came on and shortly after it started hesitating when i would hit the gas


Hi, the problem may be at the TPS or the MAP sensor. First extract the trouble code following instructions below. Then troubleshoot the indicated signals/sensors.

  1. Backprobe with a high impedance voltmeter at MAP sensor terminals A and C .
  2. With the key ON and engine off, the voltmeter reading should be approximately 5.0 volts.
  3. If the voltage is not as specified, either the wiring to the MAP sensor or the VCM may be faulty. Correct any wiring or VCM faults before continuing test.
  4. Backprobe with the high impedance voltmeter at MAP sensor terminals B and A .
  5. Verify that the sensor voltage is approximately 0.5 volts with the engine not running (at sea level).
  6. Record MAP sensor voltage with the key ON and engine off.
  7. Start the vehicle.
  8. Verify that the sensor voltage is greater than 1.5 volts (above the recorded reading) at idle.
  9. Verify that the sensor voltage increases to approximately 4.5. volts (above the recorded reading) at Wide Open Throttle (WOT).
  10. If the sensor voltage is as specified, the sensor is functioning properly.
  11. If the sensor voltage is not as specified, check the sensor and the sensor vacuum source for a leak or a restriction. If no leaks or restrictions are found, the sensor may be defective and should be replaced.

  1. Backprobe with a high impedance voltmeter at TPS ground terminal and 5 volt reference signal terminal.
  2. With the key ON and engine off, the voltmeter reading should be approximately 5.0 volts.
  3. If the voltage is not as specified, either the wiring to the TPS or the VCM may be faulty. Correct any wiring or VCM faults before continuing test.
  4. Backprobe with a high impedance voltmeter at the TP signal terminal and the sensor ground terminal.
  5. With the key ON and engine off and the throttle closed, the TPS voltage should be approximately 0.5-1.2 volts.
  6. Verify that the TPS voltage increases or decreases smoothly as the throttle is opened or closed. Make sure to open and close the throttle very slowly in order to detect any abnormalities in the TPS voltage reading.
  7. If the sensor voltage is not as specified, replace the sensor.

Where is the computer test plug in


ALDL connector located under the dash on the driver side. you can insert jumper wire from terminal B diagnostic test terminal to terminal A ground of ALDL connector.the service engine light will flash trouble codes if you dont have obd 1 scanner.you will need engine code manual to look up your codes.

Where is the diagnostic plug located on a 1994 pontiac sunbird? I want to use a snap-on scanner but can't find a plug.


Hi, your 94 model is not OBD2 compliant. You would need an OBD1 scanner to pull the codes. The connector should be under the dash. There is a manual code extraction procedure I have pasted below. Please let me know if you have more questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

I have a 1990 Chevy Lumina with a 3.1 when I start the car and give it gas it will die then if I unplug the alternator and start the car it will run and drive up to only 25 mph and then start bucking and...

  1. If there are no codes stored, but a driveability or emissions problem is evident, the system should be diagnosed by an experienced driveability technician.
  2. If one or more codes are stored, record them. Refer to the applicable Diagnostic Code chart in this section.
  3. Switch the ignition OFF when finished with code retrieval or scan tool readings.

After making repairs, clear the trouble codes and operate the vehicle to see if it will reset, indicating further problems.

1988–95 MODELS Listings of the trouble for the various engine control system covered in this manual are located in this section. Remember that a code only points to the faulty circuit NOT necessarily to a faulty component. Loose, damaged or corroded connections may contribute to a fault code on a circuit when the sensor or component is operating properly. The Assembly Line Diagnostic Link (ALDL) connector or Data Link Connector (DLC) may be located under the dash and sometimes covered with a plastic cover labeled DIAGNOSTIC CONNECTOR.
  1. The diagnostic trouble codes can be read by grounding test terminal B. The terminal is most easily grounded by connecting it to terminal A (internal ECM ground). This is the terminal to the right of terminal B on the top row of the ALDL connector.
  2. Once the terminals have been connected, the ignition switch must be moved to the ON position with the engine not running.
  3. The Service Engine Soon or Check Engine light should be flashing. If it isn't, turn the ignition OFF and remove the jumper wire. Turn the ignition ON and confirm that light is now on. If it is not, replace the bulb and try again. If the bulb still will not light, or if it does not flash with the test terminal grounded, the system should be diagnosed by an experienced driveability technician. If the light is OK, proceed as follows.
  4. The code(s) stored in memory may be read through counting the flashes of the dashboard warning lamp. The dash warning lamp should begin to flash Code 12. The code will display as one flash, a pause and two flashes. Code 12 is not a fault code. It is used as a system acknowledgment or handshake code; its presence indicates that the ECM can communicate as requested. Code 12 is used to begin every diagnostic sequence.
