First thing start simple. Check the fuses. If everything checks out ok with the fuses check the fusible link. It is located about an inch away from the connectors on the starter. Can you start the car? If it doesnt start the issue is most likely the fusible link. It is soldered inline with the wire and if there is any short most likely from a wire touching the exhaust and melting it will trip the fusible link instead of frying everything in your car. Keep me posted. Thanks - Tech101

Check the fuses under the dash drivers side. Also check the fuses/relays under the hood on the left side in a black plastic box.

2000 wrangler just died on me. The horn and lights work but no radio. Have no crank at all when trying to start

The horn and lights are not controlled by the key switch.
It sounds like the switch has failed or you have lost power to it from the battery.
Have you checked the fuses and the key switch with a meter ?

I'm buying a 88 Iroc-z Camaro.. It has 97000. mi

That ticking is usually a loose rocker arm. Use a mechanic stethoscope and you will find which one needs adjusting or replacing. A push rod may be partially clogged and caused excessive wear. Older vehicles which have been in storage often have oil leaks and related. This happens if the vehicle has not been started on a regular basis. Nonuse causes seals and gasgets to dry and shrink so be aware and look for leaks.

Check your idle air stabalizer or sometimes called the idle air control valve, it may be clogged with carbon buildup and not working properly,

The ecm will cycle the fuel pump relay when you start it and then the oil pressure sending unit will continue to supply power to the pump after the engine starts.
