Question about 2000 Porsche Boxster

1 Answer

Both low beams will not come on

I noticed my left low beam light was out. I waited about a week to replace it, when I noticed that both low beams now appear to be out.

I got new bulbs and replaced them both, and triple checked that the lights are install properly.

However, they still don't come on. The high beams come on, but not the low beams.

(I don't know if this is a factor, but the ignition switch is acting up and I'm replacing it. I'm not sure if it's related.)

I have a base 2000 Boxster.

Thank you for your help!

on my 2001 the Low beams do not turn on. you can force on by pulling light switch out 1 or 2 positions. this turns on low beams but interferes with the high beams. It appears that it may be a problem with the control unit for daytime running

2008 Saturn aura wont start after trying to put rt.low lowbeam replacement

On the inside of the lid is a diagram .
The headlamps may be turned ON 2 different ways. First, when the driver places the headlamp switch in the HEADLAMP position, for normal operation. Second, with the headlamp switch placed in the AUTO position, for automatic lamp control (ALC). During ALC, the headlamps will be OFF in daylight conditions, or low beam operation in low light conditions. Battery positive voltage is supplied to the low beam relay and the high beam relay in the underhood fuse block. When low beam headlamps are requested, the body control module (BCM) supplies ground to the coil side of the low beam relay. This activates the relay and the relay supplies voltage to the left hand low beam headlamp through the LH LOW BEAM fuse and to the right hand low beam headlamp through the RH LOW BEAM fuse. Ground for the left hand low beam headlamp is provided at G101. Ground for the right hand low beam headlamp is provided at G102. When high beam headlamps are requested, the body control module (BCM) supplies ground to the coil side of the high beam relay. This activates the relay and the relay supplies voltage to the left hand high beam headlamp through the LH HIGH BEAM fuse and to the right hand high beam headlamp through the RH HIGH BEAM fuse. Ground for the left hand high beam headlamp is provided at G101. Ground for the right hand high beam headlamp is provided at G102.

It could be driving lights mode instead of low beam. Check connections.

Left headlights

Check your connections at the wiring harness going to headlights for corrosion, sounds like high resistance somewhere, also make sure your ground wires are secure. It wouldn't be the alternator or the battery would be dead and not start the engine. Also shouldn't be any condensation in your head light assembly's or will cause bulbs to blow prematurely.

Left brake light stays on constantly when headlights are on. When headlights are off, left brake light is dimmer than right brake light when brakes are applied. I did recently change the brake bulb. ...

There is a shortage some where at the brake bulb and low beam holder. Take off the bulbs and inspect carefully those losing wires attached to the ends can cause the problem. Good luck.

Left low beam is dim

The mechanic didn't hook up the ground wire. The system is using the other light as it's ground and when this happens it causes the other light to go out.

Check the ground wires
