Just loosen up the BOLT in the alternator, the one that holds the bracket, and u can move/slide the ALTERNATOR assembly. If the A/C compressor belt is blocking the removal of belt, loosen up the compressor and slide it to free up the belt! Now u could replace the alternator belt!
Installing will be easier!

My 1998 Nissan won't start after changing altenator belt

If you changed the belt, that means that you have been having problems with your altenator. You battery is probably dead.

1996 nissan maxima... i have properly reinstalled my alternantor and noticed that my belt pulley tensioner is screeching. what is the proper order of washers on the pulley bolt?

Its likely the tenisinor was the cause of the alternator problem in the first place its a big ware part leeding cause of belt failure water pump alternator power steering and ac compressers . You would be wise to replace it 96 likely has never been done .And its far cheaper then all of the above parts 20 to 30 dollars

I have a 1996 Nissan Maxima. The altenator and battery have been replaced less than a year ago. It still will not start with out a jump in the cold weather. .

Have an auto electrician CHECK ur HARGiNG system! Either ur battery got problem or the alternator! Alternator should have 13 to 14 volts output while running! Taah!

The battery in my 1996 maxima will not stay charged. we replaced the alternater and the cables that connect. what else could be wrong with it?

If you have a new altenator and your battery is still dying, then you may have a short somewhere in the wiring. Do you have an aftermarket cd player? How long between uses that the battery dies? Do you have clocks that stay on all the time or anything like that?
You either have a shorted wire or a device that demands constant power.
