Hi,
got a C220 petrol 1995 model, having problems with it losing power when accelerating, lasts only a fraction of a second but is repeated one after another a few times and then its fine until I slow down and accelerate again. Sometimes the engine cuts out when slowing down or stationary.
Have replaced the airflow meter, this has improved the situation but the problem persists although not as often.
Any help would be most appreciated?

i would start by checking the idle air control valve. it may be called something else on a merc but basically it its a solenoid that controls the amount of air entering the throttlebody when at idle they tend to get sticky and slow when they are on there way out. hope that helps, i dont know if it is the answer but it is certainly worth looking at. let me know how you go
SOURCE: 1995 c220 petrol backfiring and
it is probablly either from a sparkplug not firing due to brocken/damaged ignition lead or dirty plug or if has a ditributor it may have dirty points as backfiring is from unburnt fuel going into the hot exhaust. could also be either the fuel pressure regulator or dirty injectors if it's fuel injected. also may be from a faulty air/fuel ratio sensor.
