C220 petrol 1995, Losing Power and engine cutting out

Hi,
got a C220 petrol 1995 model, having problems with it losing power when accelerating, lasts only a fraction of a second but is repeated one after another a few times and then its fine until I slow down and accelerate again. Sometimes the engine cuts out when slowing down or stationary.
Have replaced the airflow meter, this has improved the situation but the problem persists although not as often.

Any help would be most appreciated?

SOURCE: My mercedes 190e 200cc runs

i would start by checking the idle air control valve. it may be called something else on a merc but basically it its a solenoid that controls the amount of air entering the throttlebody when at idle they tend to get sticky and slow when they are on there way out. hope that helps, i dont know if it is the answer but it is certainly worth looking at. let me know how you go

SOURCE: 1995 c220 petrol backfiring and

it is probablly either from a sparkplug not firing due to brocken/damaged ignition lead or dirty plug or if has a ditributor it may have dirty points as backfiring is from unburnt fuel going into the hot exhaust. could also be either the fuel pressure regulator or dirty injectors if it's fuel injected. also may be from a faulty air/fuel ratio sensor.

Hi i have a honda hrv 2001 4x4 am losing power when accelerating a need to drop down gears to gain power ?

It sounds like you may have a engine that is losing compression, or there could also be a vacuum leak. Also faulty spark plugs and/or wires can cause a loss of engine power. And the last, but often the easiest to fix, is change the air filter. Check the air filter first.

run the fault codes for an exact diagnosis but from your description of the problem I would be looking at a failing cat converter as it may be blocking up the exhaust system

My sunbird is losing power while im driving. Check engine light comes on and off. After losing power, it starts up then loses power when accelerating and cuts off again. I had the head gaskett replaced

sounds like the distributor, I would replace it and see if that fixes the problem. If not then it may be with the fuel pump and filter. Good Luck Tim

Car keeps loosing its power. has drained the battery and starts but has no power and then stalls. it is a holden commmodore ute, (vs) there was no listing for holden utes in the catagory

Hi there,

I have a VS ute also so am familiar with the car. If it is losing power it could be an electrical problem to do with the computer. On the dash panel there is an engine light - does it come on? If so that is a warning light which if you take it to a Mechanic with the right equipment will be able to tell you exactly what it is. It could be the ignition coil. If the car starts okay then just cuts out you will probably find it is the IAC in the throttle body. If you remove the Throttle body and clean it out with a cleaner from Supercheap Auto (for about $20) it should fix the problem. I had the same problem where it just died on trying to accelerate. I cleaned mine out with petrol and removed the two electrical components from the throttle body and cleaned them and made sure the tunnels to them were clean also. Luckily with mine I run on Duel Fuel so managed to get by on LPG when it played up on Petrol. Hope I have helped you - let me know how you go..

regards
Bryan
