It sounds like your wires arent connected properly. are you sure the boots are properly seated? if this isnt it, check the gap. also, see if you can tell which cylinder is mis firing, it will make it easier, that way you dont have to check all plugs and boots.

My 1999 xj8l has a tick in the engine And a miss and it fludders when I hit the gas

Try this, wait for the dark of night. Start your engine ,open your hood and look closely at the spark plug wires. If you see sparks jumping over and across the wires change the spark plug wires. They are probably old and worn. While your at it change your spark plugs. Your car should run one hundred times better after this small and easy repair. GOOD LUCK.

Iam having a miss fire every time i start my car on my 2001 chevy impala how do i set the timing with out taking it to the dealer i changed the plugs and the wiring and the pressure regulator still nothing...

The timing is not settable in a traditional sense of the days of distributors. The spark timing is controlled by the computer. If the computer is getting a bad signal, your spark timing will be off. Generally, a mis-fire isn't caused by bad spark timing. A sticking fuel injector, a bad or improperly seated spark plug wire, or a bad sensor will cause your mis-fires.

ck if you have spark at the coil for that cylinder. check the plug wire closely. if it has spark at the coil, then replace all the spark plug wires.

P0420 Error code, I had the sparks plugs replaced in dec...now one is misfiring again.

i dont know if this 402 code is a miss code on a jag but usually miss codes are p0300 codes. if you are hearing a ticking and you own a spray bottle, an old mechanics trick is to mist water on the plug wires while the engine is running preferrably in the dark.

Miss firing

could be a wire crossed, or it's out of time. since you used motorcraft plugs, did you set them properly to the correct gap? replacing plugs without gapping them can cause the sluggishness, out of time can cause the mis-fires and rough running.
