I have a 2004 GMC Envoy with the same problem--shuts off when AC is on. Pep Boys ran a diagnosic and told me I needed a new air compressor 832.00 and map sensor 70.00--just spent more than 1000.00 and it;s still cutting off when I turn on the AC. Mechanic now says that I need to get the computer system reset because it is idling too low when air is on. Somebody help!

Same problem. Engine runs fine until I turn the AC on. Then the idle jumps down, engine sputters and eventually shuts off. As soon as I turn AC off it runs fine again. Started after I disconnected the battery to install a after market stereo. Fixed it by disconnecting the power again however the 3rd time I disconnected the power, it came back and I can't make it stop cutting off.

Hi your problem seems very easy :) hope this one work with your envoy. Just buy AC DELCO carburetor tune-up conditioner.

How you use it: engine running , AC off please

1. detached the big black airflow hose which is attached in the mannifold of the engine block.

2. ask your friend to step on the gas pedal and set the rpm steady in 2000 rpm only.

3. then spray vigorously in 8 seconds the inside circle opening of mannifold while your friend steady step on gas pedal with steady 2000 RPM only.

4. after you spray, let your freind continue on gas pedal with 2000 rpm for 15 more seconds.

5. attached back the airflow big black hose to the manifold and you are ready to roll with your AC on.

Grinding noise coming from alternator or A/C compressor, now engine does not turn off...

Lot of time the A/C compressor bearing brake and lock the belt. After the engine shut down the belt melt and stick to the compressor pulley. remove the belt and start the engine shortly. replace the compressor clutch and bearing or sometimes is better to replace the complete compressor.
Good luck

What exactly does max a/c and norm a/c do; the difference, and performance? What does recirc do and why is it available during max, norm, and bilev but not during defrost? The same a/c properties are...

Hello: Max cooling is when the recirculate door opens. With the recirculate door open, 80% of the air flow comes from inside of the car and 20% is outside air. That makes the cooling more efficient. Normal a/c operation is 100% of airflow comes from the outside. These settings have nothing to do with compressor operation. Also Decreasing or increasing the amount of cooling has nothing to do with compressor operation, what that does is control the amount of air going from the evaporator core either through or past the heater core. The a/c compressor runs the same amount of time regardless of settings on the control panel. Also in cool weather the compressor runs in the defrost mode to keep the windows from fogging up. None of these settings affect performance, the only time performance is affected is wide open throttle (WOT) in that mode the engine computer shuts off the compressor to allow max power of the engine, ie: passing gear.. When A/C is selected the compressor is on, none of the settings will affect gas mileage, ie, low/high, max/normal 60 degree or 90 degree.

2000 Chevy Cavalier making a noise when air is shut off

This problem sounds like the aircompressor pully, the bearing is shot.
With the engine running and the air conditioner off there is a grinding noise, look at the compressor pully, does it wobble? Then turn on the air conditioner and the noise stops, look at the compressor pully again, the wobble stops? If so that's the problem.

You should replace the compressor asap. Your car's compressor, alternator, and steering pump run on one belt If your compressor has a catastrophic failure and seizes or its pulley comes off you would lose power steering and charging of the battery. Additionally, the pulley could damage the radiator or other components if it comes off. If cost is an object you can have the compressor replaced without having the ac system recharged.

2003 Honda Pilot a/c compressor stopping after 2 secs.

If i was guessing on this problem i would say that the pressure switch is malfunctioning and telling the computer to shut the a/c down. It could be a power stearing or a throttle switch as well.

A/c compressor wont come on.

IT IS VERY EASY TO TES A/C COMPRESSOR RUN A JUMPER WIRE FROM THE COMPRESSOR CONNECTOR TO POS BATTERY TERMINAL ONLY AFTER YOU PUT SYSTEM TO MAX COOLING AND ENGINE RUNNING AND COMPRESSOR SHOULD ENGAGE IF IT DOES YOU GO FROM THERE AND DONT FORGET TO DISSCONNECT WIR BEFORE SHUTTING OFF ENGINE
