Question about 1991 Chevrolet Caprice

1 Answer

New engine I have just put a a 350 in my 1991 chevy caprice, replacing my old 305 but I am have a problem. With the temp sensor connected the car idles down and then it catches it self and when I put in gear it stalls out put cranks right back up. It will run like a dream on the highway when a have the temp sensor disconnect but the check engine light will say on. I know that with the temp sensor pluged it is retarding the PCM. I guess my question is how can I reset the PCM to read this new engine and will that help with my problems?

The problem is the temp sensor itself. <try using the old unit that must be fix to the old motor. Or buy a new one BUT solicityng it to your old motor model. There are several sensors with identical fisic aspect and different electrical tolerance. That difference is the cause of your fail

Can I interchange a 1980-1985,305 chevy engine with a 1991 305 chevy?

as it is the basic 305 block the differences may be fuel injection over carburettor which may require sensor attachments but basically the engine should just slot in place.

1992 chevy caprice with 305 has a 44 trouble code. what do i do?

Code 44 indicates a lean condition as indicated by the Oxygen (O2) sensor, most times the cause is a bad Oxygen sensor and replacing it solves your problem. But sometimes your sensor is reading properly and your engine is experiencing a lean condition caused by a vacuum leak or low fuel pressure.

How to install a new fuel pump on a 1985 Chevy,305 V8,

Remove the plunger rod by removing the plate that is bolted to the block. Clean all parts if needed.

Apply some axle grease to the plunger rod and reinstall into the block, replace plate, then carefully install fuel pump, making sure the plunger is under the push rod.

Just did this same thing on my '66 283.

What engine of other cars could fit in Chevy caprice 82-85,

almost every rear drive drive full size used the 305 V8, so u can get an engine from a Buick La sabre, Pontiac bonneville and firebird, also Oldsmobile 88, and don't forget Camaro. any 305 chevy V8 will bolt in, also the 350 V8 will bolt in, this is a much better choice..

Coolant temp sensor

Temp sensors are not powered. they are groundind for the gauge. check the sensor if gauge is malfunctioning. Do not put power to sensor wire. You could cause dead short and fry the instrument panel, Good Luck
