Question about 1999 Pontiac Grand Am GT

1 Answer

98 Pontiac Grand Am GT, several problems...

I have a few odd things that have been happening with my car that have mechanics, I was hoping you guys could help me.
1) ABS and ETS light will come on (always together) and stay on sometimes and others they go away when I restart the car of course.
2) My Low Traction light keeps coming on ALL the time even when weather and roads are perfect.
3) Lately when I try stopping (note this happens sparatically) the car brakes grab and release many times before it comes to a complete stop.
4) The ultimate head scratcher has been that sometimes (this is happens once in a while and then goes away for awhile) my car will have a knocking sound, knocks three times always and then stops again. This has happened both when I am driving and when I am stopped

Please HELP ME!!!!

Sounds like a faulty speed sensor or a bad tone ring which is probably inside the hub on this model

Sounds like a dirty mass air flow sensor but the hill thing is strange...Is the tank full when this happens? Could be a filter and would not hurt to change it (often neglected).

Rear passenger window drivers side fell down on own, being held up by pen and towel, Car also turns right hard but is fine when turning left?

Had the same thing happen to my 98 GT. It is the cable for the power window motor. Replaced the whole unit was pretty easy. Got the motor on ebay for around $50

Pontiac Grand AM 2001 start problem

"didn't start" means the starter worked but the engine didn't ignite? Could be a vacuum lock problem. Check your fuel return and vapor recovery circuits.

Over heating

Well sometimes its the small things that count and on my grand am it took several mechanics to figure out the overheating problem. Under the bumper and between the grill/radiator are rubber flaps that hang down (to keep dirt from flying up from the road). Sometimes the plastic tabs don't hold them on or they rip from deteriating and hang down in front of your radiator. There was a small tiny piece of it hanging in front of my radiator causing it to overheat very badly. Took like 5 mechanics to notice this. No joke but i have replaced the seals and all but in the end it turned out being this problem. Very odd. You might wanna check into it. Look for anything that might be covering up the air circulation in front of the radiator and look very good because several people havnt noticed it. Wish i would have knew this before i started replacing gaskets and stuff.
