Engine Reving excessively

Hi when my car is on stop it revs really high. Can you suggest anything. My local garage told me its a common fault and the part is about £15.00?

1. Engine on-dissconect the power lead to the [idle speed control valve] located on top of the engine.
2. turn engine off-
3. turn engine on, you may need to use throttle to start and to reach and hold tick over speed. Once tick over is achieved, re-connect the power lead the idle speed control valve.

You should now have normal tick over speed!

Its probably the injector. they wear away really quickly. your garage was right it doesn't cost much for a new one. just make sure you get the right one.

Does this judder cause your car to die or flood? Could be a couple things. fuel line may be partially clogged, or clutch is going out. It almsot sounds as if the gear you are in is to low however i assume you're not moving when this happens. Odd. Now that I think about it, it sounds like your engine is getting bogged down with excess fuel and causinig it to die, forcing you to rev to burn off the excess. Definatley chech plugs, wires, fuel injectors, line, and filter.
Good Luck!

My 2005 Ford Escape XLT stared reving the engine really high usually at a stop. Now the rpm's will go really low at a stop but when pushing the gas the engine revs really high and takes a bit to go back...

ever do the 60k mile tune up, yet (aka: tuneups?)
clean the EGR first, most cars with EGR need 50k service,
if it stick open motor will stall .
idle controls are complex on newer cars with fly by wire.
if not fly by wire, clean the ISC .
possible #3 is induction air leaks (aka vacuum leaks)
Is the CEL lamp glowing? running?
if yes, the ECU is trying its best to tell you what is wrong.
listen to it, that is called a scan tool (cheap as $7)

Engine reving on start

Hi there,

When cold, modern EFI engines are designed to idle higher, until the engine warms to operating temperature. The idle should then return to around 700rpm.

If your engine still revs at 2000rpm after warming up, then there is a problem with the fuel/air mixture, or a possible air or vacuum leak.

In this case, your vehicle's computer will have stored the appropriate fault code/s. Have your codes read by your local Renault dealer to determine which circuit is the cause.

Hello My 18 year old neighbour bought his first car last week, a '95 Chrysler Stratus 2.0 with manual gear box. Now the tachometer is broken, I was told that there were some plastic parts inside it...

the engine has a rev limiter inbuilt,so after 6250 revs it will cough and sputter.the rev counter is for people who drive to strict rev limits to conserve fuel, and the obvious drivers who drive to the max power/engine revs for "fun"most men drive to the "sound" of the engine,so a rev counter is excess to requirements....save your money.(once he gets his "no claims discount" down he will buy a bmw anyway.........)

Choke coming on even in summer, is this right

it seems that your coolant temp senor is what causing this to happen it's natural inless it revs really high and stays above 1100 rpm's after the engine heats up.

Not reving high on cold start

Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls and low idle, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve (IAC for short), they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake

I would suggest an automatic transmission flush before I did anything else.

Rev counter

The revs were reset wrong, get them re adjusted. Go back to same garage and ask for it to be done free, as it was done wrong first time.
